    The cancer has spread

...and now I want to get into reloading. Buying ammo every time I want to shoot is expensive and getting it from my local walmart is a pain since they rarely ever have any in stock plus I am about to pull the trigger and get a Remington 700 in .308 and will definitely want to reload for that.

I am thinking about the Lee classic 4 hole turret press to get me started as well as their auto-disk powder measurer and the die for that.

What I am wondering is what other dies will I need. From what I understand I will need a sizing die, seating die and crimping die. I found a 3-die set with just these dies but will I need any other dies? Do I need a neck sizing die in addition to the full length sizing die that comes with the set?

What will I need for the removal and installation of the primers?

Also, is a case trimmer a necessary tool that I should put on my wish list?

      1. How much do you have to spend?

      2. How much do you shoot?

      3. What calibers are you shooting or intend on shooting?

      4. Have you read any Reloading Manuals yet?

      5. Do you intend to shoot rifle long distance or for groups? Or just blaster ammo?

Answer those questions and we can give you better advice.

        You will need:
        Turret Press
        Powder measure
Dies (3 die set is fine)
        Scale
        Tumbler
        Manual

I think that's it. The press will prime and deprime.

Dont forget the riser if you want to mount the powder measure to the turret.

As others have said or will say. Read up on the subject. Buy a reloading manual or two and by a how to book. Many people like the ABC's of reloading as the how to book.

I have saved every loading manual I have bought since 1970. They are a valuable source of information. I have quite a library. My 1970 manual answered a question someone had from the other day.

                Welcome to the hobby.

                Start reading.

A tumbler is not a necessity? I've not had one in over 25years and yes my brass is cleaned and shiny. Tho one would be nice I guess?

Not a bad choice. But do add a powder scale and when you use turret, load one case at a time so you can see step by step process.

What I am wondering is what other dies will I need. From what I understand I will need a sizing die, seating die and crimping die. Since you'll be loading for a bolt action, initially full size the brass then neck sizing afterwards.

What will I need for the removal and installation of the primers?
The sizing die removes the spent primer and the Lee turret press I would assume would have a built in primer arm to install primer.

Also, is a case trimmer a necessary tool that I should put on my wish list? Yes very necessary since bottle neck brass when fired stretches and will require trimming. I would go with a counter mounted trimmer like RCBS, Lyman, Foster, etc. Also you will need a caliper to measure brass lenght and overall length of the loaded round.
Most important of all read up on reloading basics before you purchase the equipment. Reloading manuals like RCBS, Lee, Lyman and ABC Of Reloading are good publications. Have at least two manuals to reference.

Starting off with a rifle caliber is more difficult due to the increased amount of case preparation.
Be sure to read at least one manual entirely (preferably two) before you get started.
Check between Grafs and Midway on each of the following for the best current prices.
