I didn't see any such warning with my CMMG upper. I don't think Bill did either with his, or he'd have mentioned it. Anyone else seen a warning?

My AR has no problem with Wolf (shot Wolf all day at Chabot this last BBQ with no problems at all). Ditto the Yugo, and my Mossberg shotgun. I haven't tried much else in Wolf yet simply because I've generally found better deals on other brands for not much more (or sometimes even less).

I suspect all manufacturers have bad batches of ammo. There will be more instances with larger quantities, which are typically sold for lower prices. Hence cheaper ammo will tend to have more problems reported due to the sheer numbers out there.

Each "brand" of Wolf comes from the same factory. So it is consistent in that way. Also, some of their ammo is made in Western countries. I believe the Wolf Military Classic linked to in the original post comes from Ulyanovsk. I have some Silver Bear branded 223 from the Ulyanovsk plant that I chronied, and its standard deviation was nearly as good as Federal (not American Eagle) hunting rounds).

Most of the issues I've heard of with using Wolf ammo in an AR has come from the laquer coated cases. The laquer builds up in the chamber and cases eventually start sticking. From what I've read, there doesn't tend to be issues with the polymer coated cases.

I don't know about other calibers of Wolf other than 7.62x39 and 223/5.56.

However, I have no fear of Wolf in my ARs - either in terms of safety, reliability (i.e, fails to go 'bang') or operational reliability (jams/etc.) in my AR or SKS.

The rumors of 'excess wear' are moot. Perhaps the soft steel case wears out a $10 extractor an extra 3% faster - WTF cares?

Do I think it's dirty and not-that-accurate? Yup.

Ask rssslvr - his FAL suffered a kB from Wolf 308. When he called 'em up, they didn't act as if it were unusual at all! Turns out there were a few 308's getting blown up by that bad batch.

Their quality control is kinda sporadic since they source their ammo from different places on occasion. There was recently a batch of Wolf 7.62x39mm that was damaging SKSes.

I have and will continue to accept free Wolf ammo. It is quietly set aside, not for trading, but as SHTF ammo. I know there is no way I'm going to shoot that stuff through my guns UNLESS it's the end of the world, so it's always going to be safe from joining my target practice stash!

That having been said, I refuse to look down on a company for saying that Wolf voids their warranty. It's their right, and frankly based on the disproportionate number of kB's from Wolf, it's probably a good choice.

That having been said, Wolf actually paid to have rssslvr's FAL fixed. I have a hunch that a few of the manufacturers told Wolf that if they didn't start covering the cost of repairing guns damaged by their ammo, that they were all going to start doing what CMMG still does. Of course, that's the sort of smoke filled room back-door dealing that we're unlikely to ever get a straight story on - it's just my personal theory.
I have heard a lot of problems with Wolf .308 as reported in the FAL forums, but for .223 Wolfs kicks ***.

I have tried all kinds of Wolf.. laquer, polymer, mil classic, black box, etc... and they all seem to work for me. with my known good mags, I have never had one FTF or FTE ever. It has all been good to me. My M4's (as well as AK's) does not seem to mind if the Wolf is made in ammostan or bulletkovakia, it all works

Huh. Thanks for posting that image from CMMG. Curiously, they also disavow reloads (so much for home reloading) and any steel-cased ammo (CCI Blazer). But they single out Wolf, who also make brass-cased ammo. I've read that Wolf Gold is quite decent stuff. Ah well.

Anyone know of any chrome-lined tack-driving barrel makers who don't disavow Wolf *and* don't cost a small fortune?

Apparently CMMG still has problems producing a reliable non-finicky weapon.

Well, OK for some folks I guess. Not me, though, I won't have a finicky weapon.

I have shot about 10,000 rounds of Wolf (9mm and .223) in 2 Mini-14's and 2 Beretta 92's with NO PROBLEM.

CMMG has no problem restricting what ammo you use because YOU HAVE TO PAY the obscence prices for brass cased ammo.

If CMMG had to pay...it would be a different story.

As the price of ammo...especially brass cased ammo...continues to climb into the Stratosphere...you will continue to see more and more people embrace steel cased ammo. It's becoming an economic necessity.

I have a bunch of steel cased ammo and a whole bunch of brass cased ammo. It's just too expensive for me to shoot much of the brass cased stuff because I would have to pay today's exhorbitant prices to replace it.

For most of my practice shooting, I have switched to surplus 5.45 x 39 because it's about 30%-35% the price of 5.56 and about 20%-25%% the price of .308.

I can get plenty of practice with 5.45 x 39. In fact, all I want. And cheaply too.

I am reserving my 5.56 and .308 for SHTF.

that's fair. i too have weapons that i do not want to take chances with.

but when cmmg sends out a letter like that all i can think of is "what a bunch of putangs" and believe they are putting out a letter just to cover their behinds.

wolf has been very good to me. AK's (arsenals and romy's) and AR's (pair of bushmasters). so when i see a letter like that, all i can think of is there is something more wrong with the rifle than the ammo.

I have no problems with it in my minni 14 or two of my Ar-s. I however have a third upper DPMS stainless steel. It simply will not take it. FTE FTF every time. I use Privi for that. It is a pain but oh well. I might replace the upper with somthing that will work with cheap ammo.

I have shot wolf through everything without problem...except for my Star B 9mm. If FTE wolf 1 in 3 times. Shoots everything else fine, even reloads. So I don't buy wolf 9mm. Of course I can still get WWB 9mm bulk from Walmart for the cost of wolf, and then reload it. The steel cases should not damage you gun, may wear out the extractor slightly faster. The load issues can be a problem but the bet is that I will probably not get a KB and if I eventually did the cost savings would probably cover my medical expenses and replace my firearms.
