.308 Fruit Explosion load?

I prefer my fruit to explode when hit....

What would be the best load for shooting fruit at 200 yards in .308? Thanks guys

Big, slow(ish) and expanding.

Pretty much any bullet with a polymer tip will make fruit explode. This of course assumes that the fruit is dense. For example.. cantalope and honeydew don't explode that good.. but watermelon and coconut are most excellent! My favorite low budget organic targets are potatoes. Buy some fluorescent orange spray paint and you'll be ready for hours of fun! Oh.. with the dense fruit.. even standard SMK will give you quite a spectacle. I've assassinated many fruit at Burro

onions work exceptionaly well.. potatos are good but they are dirt colored and hard to find

No, not really. The guy who put it out there to shoot is a long standing range member and got prior permission to shoot that watermelon out there.

That reminds me when I was at burro after Halloween. There was a guy with a .50 BMG and he was giving people turns shooting pumpkins. What a mess.

155gr A-Max or 150gr NBT. I loaded my friends 300 Wby Mag with a 150gr NBT to about 3000 fps. I shot a 1 gallon jug of water with it and it threw a 40ft diameter cloud of water. should be similar with a watermelon. .308 is a bit slower, but the effect should be almost as dramatic.

Its the opposite. Light, fast bullets expand, or usually come apart, much faster thereby dumping a ton of energy into the target more rapidly. Slow, heavy bullets tend to expand slowly and penetrate deeply. This is good for large game where deep vitals have to be reached, but not so good for fruit, rabbits, squirrels, and the like.

I don't have any video, but I've shot many of rabbits (they tear up feed plots and gardens) with my 223 using 75gr Amax, 55gr fmj, 50gr SX, and many others. The 75gr amax isn't that impressive; just punches a hole through 'em. But the 50gr Hornady SX doing about 3250-3300 made some great explosions. Bullet came apart, no ricochets, and pieces of rabbit everywhere.

I'd get some 110 Vmax's and push 'em as fast as you can safely. They should make some impressive explosions on anything small. Good luck!
