advice for a scale

For the record, I've got a beam scale as a back up, but I never use it - perhaps I just have too many bad memories of using a cheep Lee scale when I first started loading.

I use an RCBS Range Master 750... exclusively. Granted, every time I use it, I verify it is weighing accurately with RCBS check weights. I start by testing at .5 grains and work up to whatever weight I'll be using - this would be a good step to take no matter what kind of scale you're using. The RCBS has always been spot on and it's just so much faster and easier than using my Ohaus.

I received my Dillon Eliminator yesterday. I am really impressed about how nice it is compared to my Lee Safety Scale.

The number one problem with the Lee scale, IMO, is the 1/10th measurement bar. It has little white lines that show through the sliding bar. It is very difficult to read near 0 or 9. The Dillon scale is quite easy to use and read.

The Dillon scale has an adjustable foot to keep the scale level, the Lee does not. The Lee scale needs to be kept on a level surface and you can not move it around without leveling and rezeroing. With the Dillon, you will easily be able to see if it is off or not.

As an avid fan of Lee products, it hurts to say but their scale is pretty hard to use. I originally bought it because of the price and I figured I would give it a try. After struggling with it for a year or so, I finally broke down and spent the extra money for a good beam scale. It is only another $30-$32 and worth every penny. From the pictures I've seen, the RCBS 505 seems to be a similar design to the Dillon. So go for that one if you're already ordering from MidwayUSA.com, otherwise get the Dillon from Brianenos.com.

By the way, they are both accurate when properly set up. However, the ease of use of the Dillon is definitely worth the extra cost.
