Hi all, I need a scale that can measure up to 150 grains. I've been reading and reading but want expierenced advice as to what and where to get it. I was going to get the lee safety scale but it only measures up to 100 grains and I couldnt weigh a bullet on it. Im leaning towards electronic for speeds sake, and also inexpensive. But Im not against a beam scale. Can anyone recommend a decent beginners scale at a good price as well as where to get it. I would also consider a previously owned scale. thanks a bunch guys.

FWIW I have 2 RCBS beam scales 505, and 510. Both work very well, and can be found 2nd hand for cheap pretty frequently.
Cheif also makes a good recomendation. I've heard nothing but good things about those dillon scales.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events.Comment

The RCBS beam balances are rugged, accurate and cost effective. The Dillon Eliminator is about the best low cost beam balance out there. Both will weigh the range you need. Can't go wrong with either :-)
As I have said repeatedly elsewhere on these forums, NEVER own just an electronic scale. Start with a beam and add a digital later.Comment

Excellent advice, electronics have many issues, especially the less-expensive ones.
RCBS 10-10 is the best beam out there for reloading. Ohaus is also excellent, they were once the same.
Both are on ebay all of the time.
Expect to pay $100-$130 for used, $170-$190 new.Comment

Ohaus makes Dillon's Eliminator balance beam scale.

When I read reviews on Midway about the digital scales I tend to read the reviews that criticize first and then skim through the glowing reviews. Not so much because Im a negative nancy, but because I tend to trust reviewers that have high expectations... It seems almost every single digital scale Midway carries has problems staying calibrated. Many report that when a load is taken off, then put back on, theres a difference of ~0.1-0.2 grains. Every single electronic scale has similar reviews, even the top dollar electronic powder dispensers. I just cant see myself trusting a 0.2 fluctuation when using a low volume fast powder like Titegroup in a large 45 case. So Im going to be one of the ones who suggest balance beam only, like the RCBS 502 or 1010.Rails and beavertails = business up front and party in the back.Comment

I have a Lee scale.. Works well. No complaints. And cheap too.Comment

The Lee scale is good if you're going up to 100 gr. However, you need to go to 150. I bought an RCBS 10-10, but in hindsight, I'd have bought a 505 for about half the price. 505's are great scales and available brand new for around $75 from Midway USA.

I just bought the Dillon Eliminator right now.
You can save $5 by buying from brianenos.com since he charges less for shipping. Total cost out the door is $62 vs $67 from Dillon.Ronald Reagan once said that the most terrifying words in the English language are: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help".
