    Which is more fun:
Beating and chasing a little white ball over a very expensive lawn or
putting bullets down range in very small groups?

    I vote for bullets.

You're able to make match, obsolete, custom and any combination you can think of plus tailor your loads to your individual firearm. Saving Price is only one benefit. Much. much cheaper than Golf.

You most definitely can save $$$$ if you make lot's of friends and or run in to older guy's who no longer hunt, hang out at the mom and pop gun stores and talk to people, frequent the ranges ,try the skeet range many of theses guy's used to shoot rifles and hand guns would love to rid of stuff? except for a few pounds of powder I've spent no money on reloading in maybe 8-10 years. Wait I did buy some 180 gr Barnes bullets that I will never use!..... no lie

If you shoot cartridges like .44 Special/Magnum or .45 Colt...HECK YEAH there's a savings, and a big, honkin' savings it is, too!

The other chief benefit is that I don't have to worry about whether the ammo stores have anything in stock...nor do I have to worry about AB 962, which takes effect in less than two months.

In my 375 H&H I save about $35 per box of ammo for premium hunting loads and about $10 per box for plinking ammo. For something like a 404 Jeffrey you can save about $70 per box for premium hunting loads.

              Yep!
What caliber are the 180 gr Barnes?

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Its awesome that one comment about reloading not saving money has really riled people up. Its also cool to get to know people's online personas. There are 11 screen names I recognize as always posting and have a ton of knowledge. The spectrum of reloading knowledge is quite wide. I am on the charge it ,seat it, blast it, super cheaply side.

the savings is huge with match grade ammo. .308 super match runs me about $7.00 a box including tax

.357 sig runs me about $15/100 .45ACP runs about the same... prices include tax and shipping

I also never run out of ammo

When you guys talk about buying components "in bulk", what do you mean? 100 bullets? 1000? 10k?

If buying FMJ or JHP bullets, I don't see any savings whatsoever. However it looks like if I buy cast bullets or if I start casting myself, then there's a savings.

you still spend the same amount of money, if not more sometimes....

so instead of paying 20.00 for a box of 45acp and only get 50rds; for the same 20.00 you can shoot 100rds of jacketed or if you cast your own lead you can shoot 200rds for the same 20.00

when it comes down to it you still pay the same, BUT you get MUCH, MUCH more!

Reloading can be likened in a way to -

'Do you always go out to eat or do you cook?' -

You can spend about the same either way - until you look for bargains or become a skilled cook/chef/BBQ'er, etc.

Same for reloading - how good are you with your recipes; are you a good components shopper, etc.

Shooting .44M/.50AE/.50BMG is like eating prime rib everyday - you can save money if you are smart.

If you look at your time like this - I can sit on my *** and watch another episode of south park or I can get in the garage and make another 100 rounds - well, then your time is spent more wisely making rounds.

Just my 2 cents - but an appropriate analogy.

Also - handloading is also to increase accuracy - something tough to do with commercial rounds.

                                not really, it only takes me about 2 hours to make a month's worth (600) .45ACP for $90 I make $50/hr so that's $190

mind you that includes tax shipping and the 1 hour round trip to wall-mart

WWB $34/100 +tax + 10 mile round trip + 1hour round trip = $275... if they have it in stock.... so figure 2-3 1/hr trips puts the price $385

if you value your time at nothing then yea, you are right, it's only 2.5 times the price or $130/ month more for WWB

now that I have taken a likeing to .357sig.... figure double the prices on manufactured ammo, and knock about 20% off the price of components
