It will mess up your AR, oh noes!
Ha ha! It is okay to use in your AR. I have shot several thousand rounds of it in expensive and cheaper uppers ranging from my Addax GPU and LWRC-I GPU to my Stag and Spikes DI uppers and I had no problems using it. Ultimately it is your call, but I do not see a problem with it. Just my $0.02

I haven't use the Wolf brand yet, but I have shot lots of Tula w/ polymer coated steel case. Not the most accurate ammo but great for plinking !!!Wanna learn to shoot SKEET? I am here to introduce all shooters to the sport of SKEET Shooting ....

Thats absurd...
If your AR does not cycle Wolf reliably there is something wrong with your rifle..
I spent a good amount of time customizing AR15/M16's as an armor for a class 3 dealer, Most the rifles I worked on ended up in the hands of local law enforcement so reliability was essential... I personally tuned every rifle's gas system (if it needed it) to fire both Wolf & M855
The older green enamel coated wolf had a reputation of sticking in non-chrome lined barrels however I have not personally seen either of those items in years... If your rifle does not have a chrome lined barrel you should consider replacing it with one, unless your rifle is for competitive shooting in which case you shouldn't be shooting Wolf through it (not because its bad for the rifle, just not particularly consistent/accurate compared to match grade ammo)...
If you are having problems with Wolf any decent gunsmith or armor can tune the gas system in your AR correctly. Otherwise you can buy another buffer spring (saving the original) and trim it one coil at a time until your rifle functions properly (just don't forget to replace the spring with its original before firing heavy or high velocity ammo through your rifle)Last edited by guile_99703; 12-10-2010, 11:31 AM.Comment

I had a case of Wolf I bought last winter. First outing, I shot a couple hundred rounds with no problems. This past weekend, I put about 500 rou ds thru my gun and started having failures. I've never had problems with any other ammo.
I cleaned the chamber and it was fine. YMMV.Comment

Wolf is good for assessing the proper function of your rifle... That's why I always used it in tuning...
If your rifle only recently started having issues with Wolf, the first thing I would consider doing is pulling the gas tube and blow through it, then give it a good cleaning, blow through it again. If there is a difference you likely solved the problem.. If not check the gas Key on the bolt carrier and the bolt itself...
If your rifle still isnt giving you any love its time to get into your gas block... Not everyone should get into that aria.. if you have been there before and know what you are doing, remove the gas block clean and check the alignment of the ports between the barrel and block.. If alignment is an issue chamfer/radius the ports.. Reassemble and test.. if problem persists and the rifle has always had issues with Wolf remove block and open up the gas port on the barrel .005 at a time until the rifle functions correctly..Last edited by guile_99703; 12-10-2010, 1:01 PM.Comment

The steel case is covered with a plasticized laquer and this will create a small amount of buildup in the chamber. Just clean your chamber more often and the Wolff ammo will be fine.
A well known AR smith (Patrick Sweeney) tested this ammo and found the worries of chamber scratching to be complete BS. The only problem he found was leaving a round in a real hot chamber for 20-30 minutes caused the laquer to stick and the round would not eject after firing when it had cooled. Round had become glued into the chamber when the heat softened laquer cooled. It had to be knocked out with a cleaning rod.
This says don't use Wolff in a tactical situation, but that it's just fine for plinking and low level competition usage.Comment

Yep...brass cased for hunting or serious SHTF.The steel case is covered with a plasticized laquer and this will create a small amount of buildup in the chamber. Just clean your chamber more often and the Wolff ammo will be fine.

Steel cased for all day plinking.
My GP AR pistol eats this stuff too with no problems.Comment

I am on the fence on this stuff. I have used it in a class with rapid firing and noticed after several mags, I would start to have failures, around 200 rounds or so. So this stuff is ok for plinking, but not good for defensive ammo. I did get a lot better at clearing malfunctions, with so much practice.....Comment

they use a Bimetal bullet instead of pure copper, so if you don't care about your rifling in the long run it's ok. Also it's a steel case so your extractor will need to be replaced after a few thousand rounds.
Guys will tell you it's ok and oh it will explode send to me but the truth is what I said above.Last edited by 1lostinspace; 12-10-2010, 3:25 PM.There are sniper everywhere and nowhere.....who knows what is out there.

Wolf will make your AR explode! Its the worst thing ever! You should never ever shoot .223 wolf ammo out of your AR unless you want to destroy it. If you have any wolf .223 ammo I will be more than happy to take it off your hands and dispose of it appropriately.

The only problem I've ever seen is the extractors breaking on the steel cased ammo . brass is a softer metal than steel and is easier on the extractor . I think it's more of luck on this part do to that I've heard & seen people breaking pretty much all makes CMMG, DPMS , STAG , COLT ect. .I've also seen guys never have problem firing 1000's of rounds even bump firing with no problems .Originally Posted by Suvorov View Post

i don't know if i would use it, the other day my friend took out his new S&W AR and was shooting wolf. After about 150 rounds one of the casings got stuck in the chamber and would not come out easily. He actually bent my cleaning rod to get it out and had to really hammer at it to get it loose. I have never shot wolf or any steel casing out of my AR. But after seeing that with his new one I don't think I will ever go steel with my AR. Now my AK different story.Comment
