That's not what the OP wants to do. He wants to neck size, not neck and shoulder bump.

The taper in the die will induce the shoulder movement, not prevent it. You have it backwards.

Since you've got a bolt-action I presume you're going the neck sizing route? You probably won't hear it much for .223 so it's not obvious. I can't help you here but maybe somebody can suggest their neck sizing die.

Perhaps you mis-understood, or my sentence wasn't very clean. As you can see here sonnyt suggested simply neck sizing, and you suggested a die. My response was supposed to convey the fact that while some people only neck size, that since a neck sizing die wouldn't bump the shoulder back, I would prefer a FL die so that I could bump the shoulder back.

I might not be able to only neck size using a FL die, but I can neck size and bump the shoulder, sizing the case only the minimum necessary to ensure function, and screw it down further should I need to size all the way to the base for some reason.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to buy a Lee 223 collet neck sizing die along with your 223 F/L die. They run around $20.00 +/-, cheap enough to try one. Use your F/L 223 die to bump the shoulder back when you need to.
