That's what I was thinking when I read that. I could see using a hand primer on a single stage press, but on a turret? That would really slow down production time.

Who knows! Hand priming is a waste of time when the machine will do it for you.

Okay... So I added and updated the list. Please take a hopefully "final" look. I removed the hand primer and Added the Lee safety prime kit(pre-206 because of the classic turret). Also I think the Chamfer & deburring tool is a good one that will suit my purposes(if not please guide me again), zip trim & trimmer cutter and lock stud should all work together. I went from about 250 to now I'm at $400 plus I need a beam scale Hopefully midway has a $100 off of 500.

For primers and Powder I obviously don't want to buy online because of the $25 hazardous charge. If I buy local will they factor in that charge(ex. prices will be substantially higher i.e. inclusive of the hazardous charge)? Any recommendations on primer brands(i want ones that go bang each time)?

As always, I really appreciate everyone's help. I'm a noob when it comes to this. It seems really simple in theory but each step required a different tool which then needs to be compatible with your set up and such. Thanks again!

If you are buying in bulk, or even just 1 8lb of powder and 5k primers, you can usually save online, even with the HAZMAT

Dillon makes one for $55 that's just as good. But since you're already paying the shipping from midway, you may just want to get one from them.


For primers, really any of them will work fine. You could avoid Wolf if you really want to be careful, but I use them as well as all the others.
My favorites are CCI and Winchester.

Now that you are realizing just how much everything will cost you may want to consider spending a little more and getting a Dillon 550b. This one is around $375.


If I were you, I'd get the 550b, a scale, and some Lee pistol dies. All for under $500. Learn to load pistol on the 550b, and then in a few months spend another $100 on the extra tools and dies to load rifle.

Sorry to throw a monkey wrench into the thread, but at least something you can consider.

I've loaded on presses of all the brands and driven cars of all the makes. Trust me, it's more fun to drive a BMW and load on a Dillon

Should work for you to as long as you read other peoples post. My ammo types luckily cover handgun and rifle so it should be inclusive to yours to.

Final approval please? The List should be literally EVERYTHING I need to reload. Maybe I need case lube and also a lube pad thingy. But I really think that is everything right?

Since your a starving collage student LEE will work for you. Please read and reread the reloading manuals you are going to buy. One of the best ones out there is Lyman's 49 Edition Reloading Handbook, Lee has a reloading manual that good for the bottom of a bird cage. Just go slow and pay attention to what your doing, because you playing with things that can and have blown up.

No, you were right the first time. You do need the post-2006 Safety Prime Kit. I have a Classic Turret with basically your exact desired set-up, and uses a post-2006 kit. That pre-2006 one is for turret presses that don't have the Lever-Prime System (LPS). The Classic Turret Press has had the LPS since its inception.

Go ahead and buy your powder locally. An 8-lb jug o' Bullseye or Titegroup or W231 is only about $120 and will last you a loooong time. A 4lb jug of 2400 lasted me 6 months, which, given how often I shoot and how much 2400 I use per round, is pretty damned good.

The HAZMAT fee's impact depends on the price of the primers and how many you buy. A while back, I bought 20,000 primers for three buddies and myself, and the HAZMAT fee was relatively small by comparison to the order. Also, primers are starting to come back down to a sane price level, so you can get some deals. I scored $18/1000 at Widener's after I convinced the lady there that she didn't need driver's license copies for primers.

And since you're using the Safety Prime instead of the Auto-Prime, you're safe with *any* brand of primers, including Federal. Lee Precision even says so.

As for those primers which consistently go bang, I have tried the following brands with 100% success, to date:

CCI
Winchester
Remington
Magtech
Federal
Wolf (same as Tula)

I have gone through tens of thousands of primers in just the last year. Of my reloads, I have yet to have even one failure to fire (FTF). Basically, they're all good, so go ahead and buy based on price. That's exactly what I do.
