    Thoughts on Hornady press

Hey all, I'm looking at this

    Hornady Lock-N-Load AP Progressive Press

At Midway it has 4.5 out of 5 stars rating and many said they liked it over the Dillon 550B.

Anyone use one or both and have any input?

That's a great press. I don't have one because I tasted the blue cool aid and got drunk. But I know people that own the Dillon and the LNL and prefer the LNL. It's a great press, you can't go wrong with it.

Oh ya, I forgot one thing,
    Dillon is better

Do a little searching - this topic is right up there with the Chicken and the Egg!

All BS'ing aside, there is a lot of discussion on here and elsewhere on Red vs. Blue. There are also some good video reviews and tutorials out there if you hunt them down.

I have had a LNL for about a year and a half. I load .223 and .308 on it. Just added the case feeder and that is worth having! All in all I find it to be a very good system. I had used a friend's 1050, and a 1050 it 'aint, but it will load a lot of ammo for you. I use Dillon dies on mine and have no problems.

I load 9mm and 38 spcl./.357 mag. on a Dillon Square Deal B, but will soon add 9mm to the LNL now that I have the case feeder (I also built a 9mm AR-15 and need to load a LOT more 9.

I think there are a few pluses for the Hornady over the 550B, but a few pluses for the 650 over the Hornady. The 550 is not auto indexing and is a four station press, the LNL is auto indexing and a 5 station press.

I did see some of the sticky's, but it seems like the Dillon was the only way to go with no mention of the Hornady. The reason I looked at the 550B over the 650 was I think the 650 will not do 50 cal. The 550B will. That said the Hornady willnot do 50 cal either.

The Hornady is $406 but I would use the Midway promo code and get $100 off so th enet would be $306. If both brands wee even the price of the Hornady would sway me over.

By 50 cal, if you mean 50 BMG, none of the standard presses will load the BMG. The Dillon 550,650,1050 and LNL WILL NOT LOAD THE BMG. There are no progressive presses that I am aware of that will load the 50 BMG.

Hornady has a rebate for 500 free bullets with your order.

But the Hornady AP LNL will load .338 LM; however, you'll have to find a used .338 LM shellplate as Hornady discontinued it.

BTW, I've been very happy with my LNL especially after I got my case feeder.

              Better price ($390) here:

Both Hornady and Dillon are excellent presses. Each one has its pluses and minuses and it is up to the end user to decide which one fits him/her better.

The comparison linked above is why I decided on the Hornady. The Dillon didn't seem worth the extra money when looked at side by side. Factor in the free bullets and cheaper conversion costs with the same warranty and it was an easy choice for me.

Manventure Outpost has the cheapest LNL price I've found, and cheaper in general on most reloading equipment. They only have two Hornady LNLs left, so click quick! The search sucks, I find it's much faster to get the manufacturers part number elsewhere and use that for finding stuff fast.

OK, after reading up on this press and watching some of the videos of it at the Ultimatereloader.com website I have found my dream reloading press. I think that most amazing part is the 1/2 index design that keeps the cartridges from having to travel so far during any one ram cycle. Absolutely brilliant. I want one but I will settle for getting my old presses back in action soon.

Here's a site with a few videos showing setup and usage of the more popular presses. Click the name brand tabs towards the top. Decent intel...

Actually, Dillon just started to make one for the 50BMG, it is like an oversized 550. I found the link Dillon BFR 50BMG

For what it is worth, I like my LNL.

The Hornady looks like a study press and the Lock n Load feature is inovative
If I was on a budget this would be the press to get
"While it may come as a surprise to the authors of the legislation, most semi-automatic pistols do in fact come with a pistol grip"

Do any of your know if that EZJect feature is now standard on the LNL AP or do you have to buy that as a conversion kit? Why the heck is the case feeder more expensive than the press???
