Giraud Power Trimmer

I have a Sinclair meplat trimmer. I've used it once on a batch of 100 77gr Sierras I loaded several months ago. I didn't do any sort of comparison test between trimmed and non-trimmed. I don't know if it helped my score any by trimming the mplats.

It's going to be hard for me to do a real test of a meplat trimmer. I think the testing will need to be done at 300 yards at least.

Personally, I think you should skip the meplat trimmer.

Im looking to start reloading here - my ABC's of realoding is arriving today - faily soon. Need to read up and get familiar with the jargon and items needed. Ill primarily be loading 308 and 223 ...

Im sure I will appreciate what his Giraud does, once I have had a few loads under my belt - im sure ill pick one up in the end.

So I just ordered one of these bad boys on Sunday. Do I need to bolt this thing to my work bench or can it just set there? What's the concensus on using it vertically or horizontally?

No bolting required if vertical. If you ran in horizontally (such that you place the case in from the side), you may have to bolt it down.

I have been using mine horizontal for several thousand rounds and have not had to bolt it down. It works better than my blue kool aid trimmer did.

Ok, cool. I want to avoid bolting it down as space is at a bit of a premium on my reloading bench. Glad to know I can try it both ways to see which works into my flow better.

I got my trimmer a few months ago It saved me so much time I managed to trim all the brass I had and became bored Now Jicko comes over and trims his brass. He even brought lunch Things paying it's way already

But if the case started shorter than 1.750 - 0.001.... there is nothing to trim.... all my "once-fired" cases(Fed223 or LC 04,05,06) are like that!!

It sounds like you still need to size the brass, most of which will stretch enough and require trimming.

are you able to find carbide replacement cutting heads for the rcbs case prep center? or do the cutting heads stay sharp?

I got 500+ once fired 308 brass trimmed in just a couple of hours, and they are LONG.... some are like 2.020 or 2.030!!

I can't imagine how long it would take if I had to trim all of those by hand.... and the Giraud did trim, chamber and deburr all in one pass...
