    Dillon's Rapid Trim question

I'm thinking about reloading .223 on my 550b, right now I do it on my rock chucker.

If i put a Dillon's Rapid Trim in the first place on the 550b, I see it resizes the case but does it deprime?

If it doesn't deprime, do you deprime as a separate step?

    Thanks

The dillon trimmer sizes, but does not nexk expand or decap.

You will need to lube the cases before they are sized and trimmed.
You will need to decap at some point in the process.
You will need to neck expand after sizing and trimming.

      What I recommend is this:
Setup a "sizing/trimming" toolhead for a lube die in station 1 and the trimmer in station 3.
Cycle the cases through the press and you will end up with lubed, decapped, sized and trimmed cases.

Then take those cases and tumble them again to remove lube.

Then you will have your "loading" toolhead which will have an RCBS decapping die with a neck expander stem installed in station 1, then powder measure, seat and crimp dies as normal for the rest of the toolhead.
The decap die will expand the case necks and remove any media that may have been lodged in the flash hole during the tumbling that removed the lube.

For my size/trim toolhead, I decapped at station 1, size/trim at station 3, and neck expand at station 5.

          Your 550b has 5 stations?
          Cool!

I use a 650 myself and lube/decap in station 1, size/trim in station 3 and neck expand in station 5.

Thanks for the input. Doesn't seam worth the money or save any time.
I guess I stick with my possum hollow trimmer for now.

                  Thanks

You can size and trim about 400 cases pre hour with the 550 setup like I explained.
If that's not worth it to you, then you probably don't shoot enough to justify power trimmers.

People that trim by hand do it by the hundreds, people that trim on a progressive do it by the thousands. I process a 5 gallon bucket at a time and have ready to load brass for months.

Just what I had in mind. Thanks guys.

Where would you guys incorporate primer pocket swaging or reaming?

Here are the steps for reloading .223.

                          STEP ONE
                          1) Tumble/clean brass that came from the range
                          2) Lube the brass after it's been tumbled
                          3) On a Dillon 650, use the "brass prepping" toolhead that has the:

                          a) sizer/deprimer
                          b) the trimmer
                          c) neck expander

                          STEP TWO
Place the lubed brass in the vibratiory tumbler to clean off lube

                          STEP THREE
Remove brass from vibratory tumbler, and then take it to your living room to swage while watching TV. (Dillon swager).

                          STEP FOUR
Take swaged brass to your Dillon 650, change the toolhead to the one that has:

                          a) Powder charger
                          b) Seating station
                          c) Crimping station

That's it. Your brass will not need another tumbling. You are now ready to shoot.

                          In Christ: Raymond

PS: If you have the 1050, I believe it comes with a swager in one of the toolhead stages.

I only shoot about 500 .223 a month, so the money is not really worth it, at this point.

Right now I chuck my possum hollow into my Bridgeport and set a bucket on either side of the table. It doesn't take me too long to run thru alot of brass. But of course I still need to chamfer and debur.

Like any thing like this i'm sure if i tried it I would never go back. It's just dropping the initial money.

Randall, Do you still make your match ammo on a single stage or is that on done on the progressive also?

I, like raymond, swage at the dining room table.

AR15barrels swages on his 1050 during the load cycle.
