I am just getting started, in .308, I have 5 sets of 8-10 that are within .1 grain and a group of 20 that are within .1grain... I am looking to build larger groups that are identical, but I end up with lots of "plinking" brass I may just buy several hundred match casings, and see how close they are after processing. ideally I would like to have 100-200 casings that are identical

          For my 308 Win reload,

          1. I tumble brass in walnut media for about an hour,
          2. Clean the inside of the case neck with a copper brush,
          3. Trim the case to the desired length,
          4. Chamfer inside and outside of the case mouth,
          5. Cut the primer pocket to uniform depth,
          6. Uniform flash hole.

And pick random cases to measure the weight. The are usually within 1 - 2 grains after the case prep. Once you did these steps, you don't have to repeat unless you need to trim the case again and do the step 4 again.

It takes too much time, and I only do this for my match loads and for my tactical rifle. But, I get very good accuracy and have a peace of mind that my ammo is good. Constancy is the key for accuracy.

the grouping I am doing right now is just for working up a load... so I can make 5 shot groups where the only variables in the cartridge are charge and seating depth. which reminds me, i need to weigh the bullets and toss the oddballs

now, in .308, which primers to use? BR2 or WLRM

No, on the flash hole. Yes on the sorting cases by weight, but only if I'm loading for accuracy. Otherwise, I just load 'em and shoot 'em...

My good groups are shot with Wolf large rifle primers. Many national level shooters use Wolf primers now, believe it or not. And, I can testyfy to that.

I have not had the chance to try wolf primers, but I can say that the BR2s are gtg. I usually buy Lapua brass and the first time I sorted almost all were within a .1 grain. For now I have not needed trimming, so I just load and shoot.

I couldn't find a conclusive correlation between case weight and velocity differences with a 20 shot string. I do suspect that Olga and Boris gave me two distinct lots of Wolf primers in one package.
