is it normal for the occasional round to have an off-center flash hole???

i dont remember reading anything about this in my ABC's book, although i should probably read the brass chapter again.

All brands of brass suffer this occasional defect, but it is harmless.

Functionally, yes, but it sure doesn't do anything good, accuracy-wise.

probably wont matter for 25 yd pistol accuracy or plinking, but would not use it for your best match loads if for a rifle, most cases flash holes are punched thru and can be a little off (tear drop shaped) or leave a little piece of flashing in the case, I shoot 223 for group size and hate winchester and remington for those reasons....and the dented mouths...some high end cases drill the flash hole so no problem there (lapua)..but cost about twice as much.

Have you tested off-center vs. perfectly centered flash holes for accuracy?

I find that a lot in commercial Remington 223 brass.

Oh yeah. I shoot benchrest. That sort of thing shows up well.

Do you shoot benchrest with a 45 ACP handgun? Because this sort of thing manifests itself only in BR rifles, and not in the 45 ACP at all.

I would be more concerned about buggering up a decapping rod than any real problem with accuracy. I am sure an off center hole can't help but how about berdan primers with two off center holes? my ha-penny

It is common knowledge that 45 ACP accuracy is unaffected by brass. You can use mixed brass: small flash hole, large flash hole, off-center flash hole, etc. and the accuracy will be there if your gun is up to par.

I wouldn't shoot it or reload it, but thats just me. Not worth the headache for the price of a piece of brass.
