    Reloading shopping list!!

I want to start reloading 223 for my auto Rifle, I've been researching/reading on the reloading equipment that I need to start reloading for this particular round.

So I was wondering if I can get the opinion of veteran/novice reloader if I am missing something to complete my setup to start reloading.

NOTE: I don't have enough room in my APT for a larger press so I choose a hand press.

      Hi,

Thanks for the advice I change the scale to a RCBS model 505. does the pins break often on the Lee dies? or for precaution I should have extra pins.

      Thanks.

I also recommend a case gauge:

I've never had a problem with Lee dies or decapping pins. Reloaded thousands of .223 over about five years with the same set.

You will also need case lube and possibly a lube pad.

You will need to order the cutter seperately for #12

Screw the Lee handpress. I know it's a cheep way to start out but do yourself a favor and at least buy the Lee Classic Cast press.

You have it generally covered. I might suggest a bullet puller so you can repair your mistakes. Case lube and a lube pad for rifle are needed. You will probabaly want a brass tumbler and media at some point.

Things that make life easier are some quart size (give or take) plastic containers, a Sharpie or Magic Marker, a note pad and writing instrument, reloading manuals, and some sort of notebook to keep track of your loading experiments so you can quickly determine if you tries something before. I actually keep track of mine with a spreadsheet in workshed computer (which I also use for amateur radio stuff). A comfortable chair and good lighting help keep you going

I package my ammo in quart Ziploc bags with the load information and date written on them with a Sharpie. I put 50-100 rounds in each bag, depending on caliber.

I got a "Homer" toolbox at Home Depot to collect all the parts and pieces. It won't hold the press but it holds everything else.

The most important tools are patience and attention to detail. Take things slowly at first to ensure you don't miss a step, and you will eventually create a rhythm that works for you. No pets, no TV, and no alcohol are good rules too. The beer tastes better when you are done anyway.

Ok I updated my List with the lube kit, know am a bit confuse regarding the cutter,

so I need both the cutter seperately and the Case Length Gauge and Shellholder 223 Rem to size my brass to manufacture size correct?

The cutter is basically one size fits all. The length guage screws in to it. I learned the hard way and had to place a second order. They're cheep enough that you may want to order a couple.

                    Oh,

so the cutter only cuts the brass and with the help of the length gauge it keeps it from over cutting (in other words it sizes it to what it needs to be)

No offense to you, but I would seriously rethink what you are doing if you are planning on loading .223 for a semi-auto using a hand press. It will take you at least an hour if not more to load enough for one thirty round magazine.

I started out on a single stage press and even then I thought it was too time consuming. Using a Dillon 550 now I wonder how I could even stand reloading then.

Pins are one of the cheapest items in your reloading kit. You should have a few spares on hand for $2.

I use a single stage press and I'm getting to that point, especially with .223....

+1 for Imperial size wax. Throw the pad and the glop out.

Unless you are crafting very careful varmint/target rounds, buy bulk .223 from an ammo pusher. You will never load enough with a hand press or single stage

All of your ammunition needs in one place. Our ammo includes military surplus, Hornady, Winchester as well as many other brands. We offer bulk and cheap priced ammo for your ammunition needs at Ammo To Go.

You'll have to trust us the $40 difference will be huge when you start reloading. I've never heard of anyone being satisfied with the hand press for more than a couple of months. You can spend $75.99 and get something you'll use for a while or you can spend $36.99+75.99=$112.98 when you finally get frustrated and upgrade to a single stage press.
