I must be doing something wrong. My autoprime was a cheap POS.

(I am new and been reading) Modern Reload 2nd Edition by Richard Lee
It didn't fully explains why it does not recommend Federal aside from saying do not use.

      On page 50, it reads:

These sizes may be used with 100 primers in the tray.
All sizes of CCI brand primers
      Winchester small pistol
      Remington small pistol # 5 1/2
      Remington large pistol # 2 1/2
Limit to Only 20 primers in the tray of these types:
      Winchester Large Pistol
      Winchester Magnum Pistol
      Winchester Magnum Rifle
DO NO USE FEDERAL PRIMERS IN A LEE AUTO-PRIMER!
      ...
Federal brand primers are the most dangerous when sed in the Lee tray fed priming systems...
Test show Federal rifle and pistol primers have about the same energy as others brands. It's simply too darn dangerous to use Federal primers in the Lee tray fed priming tools.

I've broken so many Lee hand priming tools its not even funny. I have spare parts on hand. When priming new 243 cases with Wolf primers, I broke THREE handles within 20 minutes. I've broken the body, had the con rod wear down to the point it wouldn't fully seat primers, etc. I kept buying spare parts, but after the latest round of breaking handles, I finally bought the RCBS unit. Wish I would've done it sooner. The Lee is a POS.
