Yes. Long long ago in a free state far far away I started out with one of those classic Lee loaders and very minimal instruction. As a first timer I was naturally nervous sticking it in the chamber, didn't take long, I shot my load, and every thing came out fine (not sure where it went though).

Sort of. Not sure if it was the reload idea or just the gun. I was loading for a rifle I inherited, a Winchester 1886 converted to .348 Win. It had a straight stock, steel buttplate, and kicked like a mule. It took quite a few rounds of .22LR to cure that flinch! I still fight it when shooting a new gun.

My BIL got the classic "Mark of the Magnum" from one of these.
He was NOT happy about it.
I told him he was crowding the scope and hold tight but he doesn't always listen to me.


No, I didn't blink at my first fired reload, I wanted to see what happened. All was OK.
But there have been a few guns over the years where the first test shots were done while wearing padded leather gloves, leather jacket and a full face motorcycle helmet, face shield and safety glasses


Then there was the time that same BIL said we needed to try out this Hi-Power he had that had been kicking around in the family for years.
He laid the gun, mags and ammo next to me on the shooting bench, said we need to shoot it, then he took off for the restroom and get some things from the car.
We always shoot each others guns and ammo so I thought nothing of it, other than here was a Hi Power to try out.
I loaded a mag and blasted away.
When he got back, he also brought a leather jacket and leather glove.
He said shooting the Hi-Power might be dangerous as it had been in a house fire and we should treat it with extreme caution when we first fired it.
