    .300 savage?

This year I decided that it's been far too long that my old 1899 savage isn't legal to hunt deer with.

Ammo was difficult enough to find pre toxic shot ban so I'm going to work up a load for it.

    I have plenty of brass,

just got the dies from ebay

(they came with a shell holder included and seem like new)

and some Barnes TTSX 110 gr. .308 came in as well.

The Barnes #4 book has no .300 sav. and I know a call to Barnes should be very helpful but I also reason that any data is going to be "very" similar to .308 data.

I'm a fan of Alliant powders anyway due to past success's but one .308 recipe I found has RL7 as the fastest loading for this light bullet and I would like to do something similar keeping speed up and pressures low in this 99 year old heirloom.

Anyone have a backtrail to pick up one here.

I reason that they are as well but since I have a year to kill I would prefer a published recipe, advice from Barnes or some wisdom from someone that has done it.

Anecdotally while searching online I found some very interesting loadings for 30-06 with this bullet.

The BC of the 110 TTSX is comparable to some 150 gr. lead projectiles and that does nothing to detract from the 06's rep for versatility @ 3400 fps or so.

So why is it you think powder charges are going to be significantly different with the same bullet weight in published data.

Here's Alliants data for RL7 with 110gr bullet

        Alliant 300 savage data

Just back of the charge a bit and work up like you would any other load. it's not that big of a deal. Only in extreme circumstances does the makeup of the bullet make enough of a difference to cause any concern.

No reason...just an abundance of caution and thanks for the link.

36.7 gr. charge is "near max" where the Nosler link posted lists a 40 gr. recipe for a 125 gr. bullet.

Just tryting not to be foolish.

Pressures in quick load are case capacity and seating depth sensitive.
Quick load says 40 grains of RL7 behind a 125 gr Nosler accubond is way over pressure and lists 35 grains as a safe max. 37 grains is hot but still safe

Be advised the data Nosler is quoting is near 30 years old. My fourth edition Nosler manual has the same velocities listed for RL7 with the same charge weights. I wouldn't trust the Nosler data. every other load manual i look in has far less powder and the velocity cut off is about 2850 fps for a 110 to 125 gr bullet. 38 gr seems to be a safe max.
I'd load up a few in 1 grain steps just to see where you are start off at 35 and stop at 38 or when you see any signs of over pressure. then you can go back and do proper load work up.

                      Gee thanks for offering,

I have RL-22, RL-19 and IMR-4350 on hand and some shotgun powders,,.

I was trying to make a comparison of what I might expect from 308 win. loadings for 110 TTSX.

Those were showing velocities well over 3,000 fps,

if that's not realistic for my savage I'd just as soon use a powder I don't have to track down and pay through the nose for.

RL19 and 22 are too slow, Fill the case and it only hits 2300 fps

                        4350 is only mildly better.

RL7 is a bit too fast you need something like

                          for me.

Iv'e reloaded for many years but only on the limited scale of feeding a few hard to feed firearms.

I should be able to find one of those locally.

                              Here is an old thread

I've had everything for a while now to reload some Speer 150gr spire points over some 4064 for out of state.

I haven't explored copper yet, but am interested to see what OP does.
