I should admit, I don?t currently load .45. I am setup for .357, 9mm, .40 and 10mm, but have only loaded the last two cartridges to date on my xl750.

I also sort my brass while I hand decap, then clean/tumble by caliber, then hand prime. It?s more time consuming but I have the time, and I don?t stress over it.

But now that ammo is getting cheaper (for me), I?ve been buying new for the range.

I load with a Dillon 550 and case feeder. The spp does make the rhythm come to a stop.
I also have a lot of lpp stashed. I do load 9, 40, 357, 38 for spp. 10, 45 44 is my lpp collection. I guess worse case I could use the 45 spp or just recycle them?

I have a Dillon 550B and it really get annoying and brings the operation to a halt. and you then need to remember to not replace the case but skip that station and add a new case at the next index of the plate.
If you're loading on a single stage the interruption is minor. On a progressive it really ticks me off.

I get the annoyance on a progressive, absolutely. But if you sorted them before, is it still a big deal?

        Just curious is all.

For me, just a minor inconvenience. I use a Hornady progressive press, but I hand prime. For me, it works better.

Probably not, but having to sort .45acp brass would be an aggravation all by itself.

I'm sure glad I accumulated oodles and scads and bag-fulls of .45acp brass before someone decided to make it with SPP. No sorting, no problems on the progressive, no issues, no worries.

That's the point, I do not sort pistol brass. In as much as I separate by caliber only. There is no reason for me to sort brass and actually take the time to look at the primer size. I have huge batches of brass and there is no way I have time to sort it.

Go read my stickied thread on loading by the "bucket method".
Nowhere in the process is brass sorted other than by size as the 45 is separated from the 40 and the 9 and the 380.
Looking at primer sizes is not part of that soft as that sort is done with brass sorting trays with various slot sizes to separate the different sizes.

I used to get a lot of SPP brass, but since I only pickup my own brass and sort afterwards too, it happens once in a great while. So not a big deal for me. I use a XL650.

It does bring things to a halt though. I?ll chuck the evil case, replace with good case and then seat the primer. Then onward.

I inspect the bras as it goes into the press. I also turn it over to tip out any leftover tumbling media. At that time I verify brand & primer size. Small primer 45ACP are culled and saved for a batch at a later date using spp

Currently, I'm reloading .45 ACP on the new Lee Pro 6000 press. It doesn't really interrupt my reloading rhythm that much. Just pay attention, and if you feel something that doesn't feel right, stop and look at that case. If it's an SPP version, then set it aside and reload it in a batch when you get enough.

This is why I don't really mind sorting by primer size. I *NEVER* resize handgun cases by headstamp, though; that's totally a waste of time. Sort only by primer size, and you'll be just fine. My ammo is a mixture of CCI, Remington, Winchester, Federal, Sellier & Belllot, Fiocchi, PMC, and a few others that I cannot remember right now. They all go bang in 1911's, Glock 21's, and Ruger SR45's.
