    Too small primer flash hole

    7.62 Nato

Never seen this brass before, I thought it was probably sealed by a person until I broke my decapper pin in 3 pieces. So is the only way to salvage these 20 pcs of brass by running long bit through it to enlarge the hole and then decap? Or I guess I can use a long thin punch and see if I can decap that way and drill the opposite way so I can actually get it aligned perfectly and not ruin it.
    Or just toss 20-7.62nato brass...

As I understand it, berdan primer holes have 2 small holes.

Sinclair International sells the small pins commonly used on benchrest cartridges.

Learn something new every day. Now to see if RCBS has them too.

Or maybe I'll get some spares and grind one thinner. Hopefully it holds.

I will say the Australians have a video on de capping berdan brass

        Need a 30 cal punch

        Fill case with water

Set punch in mouth of case

        Hit fast with hammer

        Water pressure drives out primer.

This thing is sealed and crimped military brass, once fired. If grinding the pin won't do it I'm giving up, not worth 20pcs of some obscure brass.

I second what tabasco said, that crimp and sealant is very tough depending where and what military applied it. Sometimes that stuff is sealed shut like king tuts tomb and takes lots of effort to break the seal and crimp.

i feel you man 308 has extra value to me i would buy an extra long drill bit and fix em

ive ground a decapping pin from a long sheetrock type screw

So I messed up and got it stuck inside the die with not enough lube, other subject.

While drilling out the primer (usually it's just a primer pocket) I noticed that I can probably just drill the primers out carefully and then drill the flash hole this time.

The things we do for reloading components.

It will be a rainy day tomorrow, I'll figure it out tomorrow, probably with a dremel most likely.

Those are easy to spot with that pink primer sealant.

I cull them and bag them, how many more you want? Ill even send the pin for the decapper.

Noticed yours are .308, mine are 5.56.

I just ran into some range pickup 9mm brass that was the same way. Small flash hole and strongly crimped primer. It kept pushing up the decap pin from the die. With enough force I was able to push the primer half way out. I used vise grips to hold the half protruding primer and simply pushed the case over and the primer popped out. Used a case mouth debur tool to remove the crimp and reprimed the case without any problem.

I'll probably cull those cases out and not even bother with them in the future. Next to 22LR, 9mm cases are the most plentiful and free for the taking just about anywhere you go shooting.

This is the first small primer hole, decapper breaking brass I've ever seen. I've picked up thousands of 9mm, 556, 45 with no issues. Well, 9mm has low shelves and 45s have small primers and 556 has crimps but easy enough to deal with. I'll always pick up 308 if i see em, it just sucks that everyone's specs for nato aren't standard....

I've officially spent too much time on these 20pcs of brass, giving up.
