    7.62 x 39

Contemplating jumping into this caliber. What are people using for bullets and powder for this caliber? For use in a 1954 Russian SKS. And---in search of dies and brass.

    Thanks

    I passed on this calber.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Considering your entire history on this account is in the marketplace, what do you mean get into this caliber. You want to purchase componants to try and sell to others or do you want to reload for this caliber.

I was mistaken. Your history of starting threads is all marketplace. So to me its people looking to see what to buy up and then resell in the marketplace which screws the ones trying to reload for themselves and not getting into the buy/sell aspect.

That being said 123gr pills are the standard along with AA1680. You can go heavier or lighter. AA5477 is used for 300BOut and there is data for 7.62x39 and stated velocity is in the wheel house. Brass might be an issue as well not sure the ejection pattern on your rifle so dents might happen (not a deal breaker as they should fireform out when firing but then again it will dent when ejected) I bought a 7.62x39 AR Upper so my brass was unscathed.

Hornady makes 123gr bulk but they are hard to find and normally expensive

Berdan or boxer primer? aren't the primer pockets also different? If using boxer primer, need to use brass that was previous loaded as boxer? Or modify brass berdan primer pockets?

Tough time to 'get into' a new caliber. If you think you will reload for X39 just be patient and buy supplies as they come up for sale. Eventually Lee will get their moulds back into the supply chain and then you'll be able to cast your own projectiles.
The plated bullets from Berry's and X-treme may come back eventually, but will be higher priced than before because the commodity price of copper has just about doubled in recent months. Consider it a challenge to put together the components
and materials you'll need, that way it will feel like a victory every time you score the 'treasure'. Like I said, not the best time to start with a very popular caliber, but doable for sure.

Some brass in the Marketplace right now: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1709123

Thanks for the tip on the pills and powder. As fort starting a new caliber---before covid I pretty much only loaded straight wall pistol as I shot about 500 rounds a week. Since Covid I've loaded for just about everything else in the safe except shotgun and x39 which I believe has been about 8 different calibers. Supplies are out there if you are patient. friend just got 6 lbs of cfe pistol off precision reloading the other day for 26 dollars a pound. I picked up 4 lbs of HP38 a month ago for 25.00 a pound. Had stocked up prior to covid so have loaded about 10K since then and still good to go. Don't shoot as much as I was BC so started branching out with other calibers. Actually enjoying the single stage loading a lot more than pushing out thousands of rounds on a progressive. Certainly learn a lot more this way. Anyway----thanks for the tips---always nice to have a starting point to see what others have done successfully before jumping in blind

Diamond K brass has a good deal for once fired brass. Can get 1k for around 250 but you will need to separate boxer from berdan primers. Out of 500 I bought i had 25ish berdan primed brass.

Bah forgot to add. Make sure you know the barrel diameter. 7.62x39 barrels can come in .308, .310 or .311. .310 is standard but some are chambered in the other two.

Hornady offers an fmj and sp in 310, nosler some 310, and Sierra 311.

For powder I like h4198 or cfe blk, everything is hard to find.
