processing brass

Anyone else processing brass? I am tumbling, sizing and priming brass to stock up. if you need to sell some with primers then no hazmat fees. Just orme d diamond on box. I have .38 spl, .300 win mag, .357 mag, 9mm, .44 mag,and .223

I think it'd be wise to stock up on brass. They're hard to come by like all the rest of the components, depending on caliber.
I've been buying the tools needed to process brass. Had an ad looking to buy processed brass, with all the offers I got it was cheaper to buy my own equipment and do it myself. Only need to process 2k pieces to get a return on my investment. Now just need a source of brass!

Being prepared is a good idea. To a degree, used brass that may not be of "match" quality is useful in working up loads. There is "utility" brass and "performance" brass.

I finally decided to try out one of those Lee APP presses.

Holy crap, best idea in a long time! It's basically a one-station linear press. It easily tripled how much I'm processing. I've got a case feeder on order (the one for the Lee 1000 that will apparently fit onto the APP). But even without it... it's fast, damn fast.
The day it showed up I got it set up pretty quick, and decapped a thousand 5.56 without a hitch. No binged up necks with the Universal Decapper... sizing and other single operations should be equally a breeze.

It doesn't feel like the most rugged piece of equipment, but the dang thing does work. Before this, for decapping I was using this little wooden jig and a decapper die pin in a drill press (turned off of course). Still faster then the APP press... but it only works for decapping and nothing else. (Yes, I have plans and most of the parts for an automatic recapping machine I'm designing... but that'll be a while yet.)

I also recently switched over to using the Lee Auto-Drum measures. I'm having really great luck with those too... very consistent throws. Small and light, easy peasy. The only issue there is the bottle for powder is really tiny and needs to be filled al

Normally my goal is to get my brass all perfect, then prime it and can it up. When the "stack" runs low, grab a full can of whatever brass and crank away doing the fun part.

Anyways... if you're processing decent quantities... grab an APP press.

I'm not too worried about brass. Last range trip I shot 300 rounds, picked up 500 empty cases. I was expecting more people to be collecting brass at this point, but no one was and gladly let me sweep up theirs.

From the range bucket it goes straight into the tumbler. I'm dry tumbling in walnut media for 30 mins. Sift out the media, and it goes straight into the press. The less than mirror shine and light walnut dusting has very little friction. Decap, resize and reprime all on a single stage. I store primed brass for later.

I'm done for the day with hundreds of clean primed cases by the time some guys are still tumbling deprimed brass.

I process brass in batches and have plenty of .223 and .30-06 ready to prime and load. I've got a box of fired .243 I need to decap, size and trim. All of my centerfire rifles are bolt guns so I have enough brass to last me for the rest of my life.

I have lots of brass prepped all the time. Now is no different. The list of cartridges is long.
With my knee replacement I have been unable to go to the range to shoot or collect brass as I usually do. It will be awhile before I can go since I get the other knee replaced on Wed.

Diverhunter ... back surgery makes things many times worse. The knee-back combination requires some real adjustment. Fortunately there are what I consider to be prosthetics. For example, claw type devices that allow you to pick things up without bending over. Who cares if people laugh at you. The job gets done and really that's all that matters.

That is what I use. I have hardware in my lower back and screwed it up lifting my dad off the floor when he was dieing. I have a left hip replacement and left Knee replacement. Wed I get the right knee replaced.
Once that is done I need to see about my right shoulder that has given me a lot of trouble.
Hell---I just need a body transplant.

I hear you. A mistake by one of our musicans resulted in my backwork. The pain was truly incredible. Both knees replaced, but no hips done yet. Shoulders getting dicey. My physical therapist was the guy who runs Kiui.

I hear that. For two weeks after I hurt my back it took me 20 minutes to get from my bed to the bathroom, screaming the whole way.
