I took the Mini out this evening, wanted to try out some of the Centurion FMJ M193 I bought. My rather un-technical (read: redneck) findings were as follows:
First, I fired 20 rounds of Federal FMJ, the stuff in the 100 round value packs. Those seem to pack a real punch, a good thundery bass note, decent recoil, and a hell of a muzzle flash. It took decent sized chunks out of the back side of the tree stump.
Then I fired 20 rounds of Wolf 55 gr FMJ, very similar to the Federal.
The Centurian was far less "boom" and more "pop", not much recoil at all, and no noticable muzzle flash in the 7:30pm shaded evening light. Only about 1/3 of the rounds fired took chunks out of the tree stump.
Therefore, my redneck opinion is, the Centurion is a lower velocity, less powerful round and probably best suited for casual plinking and bulk shooting fun. And considering Wolf is much cheaper, I think I'd rather stick with Wolf for those purposes. The only benefit to the Centurion is its brass case vs. Wolf's steel. And its probably cleaner.
Anyone else have much experience with Centurion ammo?
