    Other than SPPs...what else??

For expert reloaders, can other primers be used to reload 9mm?

Specifically: Large Pistol, Small rifle primers & Small Pistol Primers magnum

Requesting guidance or experience to prevent undesired events.

Based on that question, I suspect you're new to reloading. Before you venture out too far into the thickets, I suggest you get some more experience, and just pay up for the primers that will definitely work in the meantime. Yes there are other workable alternatives, but based on that list you provided it doesn't seem like you have loaded many rounds.

btw, you can't even fit a large pistol primer into a small primer pocket.

You *probably* cant fire off a CCI/5.56 rifle primer in a pistol. You can probably fire off a winchester or federal rifle primer in many pistols, but not all. All factory pistols can set off a small pistol magnum primer.

Large match heads, small match heads magnum, or small match head only?? [emoji12]

there's some articles/youtube videos that say you can substitute any of the "small" primers, and generally won't see pressure spikes or velocity issues though they might not be match quality consistency. But it would be prudent not to be loading super hot rounds, there's really no telling how it'll react depending on your powder load and specific gun. You are making small bombs technically, so there's some pretty significant consequences if you muck it up. As said, your firing pin may not even pop hard rifle primers. Heck, sometimes ARs can even have issues on some rifle primers depending on your hammer spring. Depending on what you end up buying, maybe build a couple primer-only cases and see if your target gun will get them to pop.

One CAN, however drill out the pockets to fit larger primers, as seen in this very Ammo and Reloading Forum... but then you are theoretically stuck using large primers in those cases forever... and 9mm brass can be reloaded so many times that I ran out of fingers and toes, x2 counting how many times my 9mm brass has been reloaded.

I've used CCI #550 small magnum pistol primers for 9mm. I was told to back the load down from what you would be using for regular SPPs. That has worked fine for me. I've been using:
                    CCI #550
                    5gr of CFE Pistol
                    Xtreme 124 gr FMJ
                    Federal brass
                    Glock 19 with OEM barrel

Personally, I wouldn't use small rifle primers for 9mm. I would just trade with someone who has small pistol primers. I'm sure it works fine, but have a pretty low tolerance for risk though when it comes to reloading.

Lpps just put 9mm in drill press and open up primers pocket. Just have your mother in law shoot the first few rounds.
