Powder coating was easier then I thought

It took half the time doing a 415 count of 124 gr .357 then it was casting today. If you're on the fence, try it.

I found the mini oven for $20 at Wal-mart and the A/C screen at HD for five bucks. Cutting it in half and bending the centers up allowed me to pull one out and throw the other in with efficiency.

    Bye-bye LLA!

The cheap Harbor Freight stuff. I accidentally bought the matte black and found results terrible, so I picked up the white and did a 60W/40B mix. I really like the slightly speckled grey color.

Another bit of help was using a shake container with a metal interior lining to "charge" the bullets for powder adherence. The plastic containers didn't quite do it, but a Planters peanut can works wonders.

The Harbor freight flat black is abrasive and should not be used. It may cause barrel damage.

Can't be that much of a problem at 40% content under 1000 fps for target ammo. The shine on these guys is pretty good.

I'll test run it next week. Others from Cast Boolits seem to have no problem as-is 100% matte coat.

The Harbor freight red always worked the best for me. Chech with local powder coat shops. I got some left over colors for free
Got to make some pink ones for the wife.

Dry tumble. Tried the Acetone first, laquer thinner second then tumble dry third.

The wet applications never worked out right all the time. It was always a roll of the dice as to how many of each batch came out decent or improperly coated...then melted down for another batch. I was wasting materials and time.

I won't go back to wet at all. Dry works perfect.

I came up with a cool way of tumbling. I got me some of them screw top plastic containers. Used an over chamfered -sharp as a punch to knock out the center of the lid. Installed a mandrel then chucked the whole system to a cordless drill for the coating tumble.

Upgrade to a better powder. It did wonders for me compared to harbor freight.

                          I bought mine from thepowdercoatstore.com

Hell, I nearly ordered from Eastwood or those guys initally. Then I thought that to just get my feet wet I'd aim for an inexpensive material first...so I went cheap with HF. Low buck = low risk.

I'll play with the nicer stuff later. My side gig isn't making the kind of money it did pre-covid.

My method is similar to others. Except I have moved all of my PC into individual bottles with squirt tops. I have plastic bottles with lids purchased from SMART N FINAL and I fill the bottle with about 1/3 airsoft bbs, squirt in about 2-3+ tables spoons of powder and then secure the lid, place in my tumbler with shoprags around it and let it tumble for 20 minutes. Use forceps to remove boolits, put them onto my nonstick silicon baking pad, bake them and move on...
