The answer is simple - buy a gun in an odd caliber and bullets will always be available. Follow the herd on 9mm and .223, and you'll go dry now and again.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Lol well as soon as read this thread I panicked and went and bought 2000 55gr 224 blemished projectiles from Midway USA . It was 96.50 for a box of 1000 projectiles so I got 2 . From reading these threads and from past experience it is better to have and not need than need and not have . Thanks A lot OP your concern became my panic lmao
Old problems are like dry poop, if you let the dry poop sit it doesn't smell but the minute you decide to stir the poop with a stick, the smell comes back. Moral of the story, Don't bring up old problems!

I definitely need more bullets, but that's because I've been loading all the stock I currently have.

Shooting around here is a pain the butt at the moment, and load dev is worse considering BLM is closed to target shooting; so I'm sitting on a pile of handloads waiting for testing and buying small quantities of new projectiles just so I can load up more test rounds I'll never have the chance to shoot in the near future...

I should just prep all that grungy brass I have laying around instead of loading stuff, lol.

              Thanks for the tip!
I panicked as well, and just ordered 1,000 factory seconds as well.
Midway's deals on factory seconds is a great way to stock up on bulk projectiles.

Now I just have to figure out how to find small rifle primers...

I panicked early. I tried to buy bulk back in June, but couldnt find anything at a decent price. Ended up buying 20k 115gr .355 FMJ from RMR, $1600 delivered ($1500 + tax, free shipping). It was about 2x what I was planning on buying, but the price was good. In the past week or so, they stopped taking orders for 20k and only sell 1k at a time now.

Save your money. Buy at a better time.

Silver is good too, I just have never tried to cast it for bullets...LOL.

Plan ahead and stock up when the stuff is cheaper and easy to get. Then you do not need to sing the blues when others start panic buying. Also buy bulk amounts when you do buy unless you are just getting enough to test for a potential load. One you find it then buy bulk.

This is not the 1st time this has happened and will not be the last. Think ahead.

                          In order of priority:

                          1) Primers
                          2) Powder
                          3) Bullets

Primers are always the first to go. Powder can be made in a pinch. Casting is always an option.

                            The easy way....

Primers can also be reused in a pinch. Remove spent primer from spent brass, remove the anvil from the cup, un-dent the cup. Your final success is how good you are at metal working. Make your own primer compound from Strike Anywhere match heads. With the match heads you will need to soak them in a non water solvent to keep them from igniting while gently crushing them into powder. You basically only want the white part of the head. Only do small quantities at once. While still wet as a paste place it in the primer cup and place the anvil on top. Now set it out to dry. Once dried you now have a functioning primer. You may have to enlarge your flash holes in your brass to get good ignition. It is a lot of work but doable.

                            The hard way...

If your into chemistry, and really good at it, you can make primer compound. It is considered an explosive when mixed so you need to be extremely careful. The go about like above of reusing the primer cup.

Both ways can be done, but I prefer the match method. You will have to test in your guns to make sure your homemade primers will be set off and will ignite your powder. Testing is a must.

You make get some hang fires and your pressures may not get to where you want.

I have used the match method with Trail Boss powder and had no problems. I did enlarge the flash hole too. I found the large primers much easier to rework then the small primers.

I have not figured out an easy way to reuse a 209 shotgun primer. Making an adapter to a large pistol primer would be my first choice.

I prefer being behind on projectiles.

(Much better than being in front of projectiles.)
