Aluminum vs Brass......

wound up with a box of Aluminum case 9mm. Just want some insight on the pro's and con's of Aluminum over Brass.

AL is good for lost brass matches.


Ive shot very little (less than 2k) of the AL but never had one issue with it.

Your steel gun could give a ratsend about the case material.

It will either run well or it won't. Try it or don't.

The savings is meaningless if you reload and almost meaningless if you don't.

Aluminum cases are the ammo equivalent of Tijuana hoores— you only use one once, and even then your gun will probably get cooties. I dunno, some people are into slumming either because it’s all they can get or it’s all they can afford. Not for me. I’m a high-class brass man all the way. No commie steel, either!

My Glocks don't know the difference. They eat anything. However my 1911 only eats bread. That's just because I like to pretend it's fancier than it really is.

With current ammo prices, by whatever is cheaper. Never had an issue and I've shot a metric load of aluminum and steel in both pistol and rifle.

1) Brass is better for reloading.
2) Aluminum is a cheap component, indicative of cheap cartridges.
3) After many thousands of rounds, aluminum cases may be harder on a gun’s extractor than brass cases.
4) Chicks dig guys who shoot brass-cased ammo.

I used to shoot whatever on sale, brass or aluminum, I saw no difference.

I bought boxes and boxes of steel cased ammo for the apocalypse. My Glocks seem to like it just fine. Two of my AR-15s seem to like the steel case ammo just fine. But I would only use brass-cased ammo in some of my more expensive ARs. Come to think of it, I've never even used those expensive ARs!!!

aluminum cases have more reliable extraction compared to steel cases

Aluminum pro: cheaper than brass.
Aluminum con: can't reload

Can't find anything on the internet that aluminum wears out the extractor faster than brass.
Apparently steel wears out the extractor faster than brass though.

I bought 750 rounds of Federal 9mm when Walmart was closing out their handgun ammo stock. Since I basically only reload for center fire calibers this was not a common thing for me. I figured I could use the brass anyway but didn't realize that it was aluminum cased until I got home.

No worries, it is excellent practice ammo and I don't have to crawl all over retrieving brass (which I have plenty of anyway). Accurate and reliable out of my G19 and Shield.

I don't reload 9mm, so yeah, "beer can"-cased ammo is fine by me.
Never had a single issue with it in my Smith, Glock or ARs.
Some ranges don't like it, tho...
