    M1 Garand Brass

My M1 beats up brass sometimes. Found a few like this. A few other it scratched the brass. Usable or done for?

Size it and all is well again, not a big deal.

      it scratched the brass.
I have fired a lot of brass; the one thing I am aware of is 'what happens to the case (brass) when fired'.

I have suggested reloaders measure before and again after firing and then again after sizing. All I have for those that are not reloaders and or interested is little short sticks.

          Next question!
I’m a touch nervous about reloading for my Garand. I want to stick to the original gas plug / Garand loads. My books don’t completely agree or get super specific On this one so I’m going off info I’ve gathered. I want to run It by you guys before I build any rounds:

          150gr FMJ/BT
          47.0 gr of IMR 4895
          Hard LRP.

            ^^

I have used those components and that charge . . .

But if you are not sure, seriously spend a few bucks on a Hornady reloading manual

I was told to use hard / military grade large rifle primers for the Garand

To each his own I suppose.CCIs are expensive and not necessary in my opinion.

"I have the Hornady. It doesn’t list IMR 4895 loads for this bullet - what made me think I should Double check"

That is a textbook load for the M-1. It is so standard that any M-1 re-loader should know it by heart. Sounds like Hornady needs a new editor. Regular primers are fine.

It's to help prevent slam firing.

The M1 beats up brass. Until the extractor rim fails it's good to go. Try to find and use military brass it's harder than the commercial stuff and will last a lot longer. Keep bullet weight under 170.

It has 150gr fmj-bt cannelure and H4895 (not familiar). But IMR 4895 is paired with the 168gr bullets.
