I made my neighbor mad once (he is a very experienced gunner). To get even, he taught me to reload the pistol calibers I was shooting at the time. Sure enough he got revenge. Reloading ruined my life.

Reloading is also a very prestigious hobby among the masses. When at a BBQ with my liberal friends, they are very impressed that I make my own ammo and shoot. Can't wait to gather 'round and hear my tales of Dillon, Hornady, Lee, CASS, IDPA, Burro Canyon, etc.

My neighbor threatened to teach me to make cast bullets from reclaimed range lead if I don't mow my grass. Gasing-up the lawnmower as we speak. Can't take any more reloading punishment and embarrassment. lol

^^ True, beware and heed your neighbor's warning! Casting your own bullets can also become rather addictive. Almost everything that I shoot in handgun cartridges uses my own cast bullets. Reclaimed range lead is about BHN 12 on average, so that means it's good for most applications, from .38 Special all the way to full-house .44 Magnum. BHN 12 is generally soft enough to properly obturate to get a good seal in the barrel and avoid gas cutting (lead fouling).

Cast bullets also work well with rifle cartridges, with some precautions, especially using the correct type and amount of lube. BHN 12 is great for things like, say, .30-30 Win pressures.

I do not enjoy the process of loading or reloading ammo, or load workups or load developments. Not one bit. It is a tedious chore that I never look forward to and would MUCH rather be doing other things than.

But I do like to be self sufficient and not be brushed aside on the whim of legislation or panic buying, and I do like saving good amounts of money for specialty ammo, obsolete ammo, and rare or otherwise expensive ammo, and I do like pulling the handle of the Dillon 50 or 60 times every morning while coffee brews and slowly increasing the stockpile a little at time with almost no expenditure.

I almost stopped reloading when I switched to volume calibers
9mm is cheap to buy in bulk

Loading rifles makes more sense as do rounds like 38/357/44
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

My definition of a hobby :
spend a lot of time, (potential) a lot of money, and seek no financial return.

And reload is a hobby to me.

The simplest reason to reload; Gavin, Xavier, DiFi, and Nancy don't know about it, can't stop you, and have NO IDEA about how many rounds or what caliber of pre-1992 weapons you own.

For me, I started in the late '80 because I became an IPSC shooter.
Then I got a temp assignment away from home, so it was shoot Sat and Sunday, tumble and sort on monday, reload on tuesday, shoot Wednesday, tumble on Thursday, reload on Friday, rinse and repeat.

I always say I don’t save any money reloading, but I do get to shoot 3 to 4 times as much and that’s why I reload.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

                            ><

                            Lets see

                            Cost of a box of 25 rounds = $16.00
                            Cost to reload 25 rounds = $4.80

Times 3000 round per year times three = Free reloading equipment + almost free Browning shotgun
