i started reloading only ,45 acp at the time 9mm was around $5 a box and 45 was about $10
i have a local gunstore that sold 500 bear creek 200swc for $30 and bullseye was around $19 so i was shootin cheap slowly over time 30 turned to $35 then $40 then $50 then i was done with those bullets

i got some lee molds and some lead and started makin by own at the same time 9mm creeped up to $10 a box so i bought the mold for 9 too

then branched off since it was no longer $4 for remington yellow box,green/white 223 and since i miss half the time with my mini 14 i needed to find a way to make it cheaper unfortunatly nomater how i try i cant make them for less than 25 cents but at least i'm shooting trusted ammo for the price of wolf

another thing a couple years ago discovered powder coating the bullets and wow before i was using the lee liquid alox and it left a mess smoked like i was shooting black powder

I started 35 years ago to save a little money, and to load more accurate rifle rounds. My accurate rounds cost less than match ammo.

I found that I really enjoyed the process of developing loads. I like to cook and play with recipes; reloading reminds me of that.

Now I do it to tune loads, save money, and I like doing it.

I don't save any money. I end up letting friends shoot up all my reloads.

I do it because I support ghost bullets, a.k.a. undocumented ammunition.

I started 40 years ago when shooting times magazine was the get all.

They always reloaded for wheel guns back then no plastic and Unique and a cast SWC were the ****. So I jumped in with Kieth style cast and unique.

Now the savings and thumb your nose at the sate make it worth continuing.

I started in the 1960's so, as a kid, I could shoot more(especially ground squirrels) for the same limited income. I also liked the Hornady SX bullets because the blew up the squirrel. Accuracy was better also.

I loaded 44mag so I could load full power and mild loads and shoot more for the same cost. Accuracy improved.

I started loading 30-06 rounds because I wanted to shoot Nosler pullets(they only made PAR at the time. These were for hunting but many were shot at targets also. Yes there was a time when there was no ammo loaded with Nosler or other top shelf bullets. Also a time when the only Nosler bullets were PAR and there was not the mono-expanding bullets like we have now. My loads were tailored for the animals I was hunting and generally more accurate. This has continued as I added cartridges to my list.

I also load for cartridges that I would not own if I did not load. Some of the Mil-Surplus, Weatherby, and harder to find ones like 264win mag and such.

I loaded 12ga shotgun shells so I could shoot more for the same cost also.

I also liked the idea that what I was shooting and the animals I shot were done so with ammo I made!

You notice that NO WHERE did I say to save money. You will never save money loading. There is always something else(equipment) to buy. Components that are a good price so you buy bulk amounts and such. If you add up what you spend at the end of the year you will not have saved any money. What you will do is shoot more and probably have a bigger stash of ammo/components. If you think you are saving money you are only lying to yourself and others. It also is another enjoyable, for most, hobby in the larger hobby of firearms/shooting/hunting.

I have dies(not sure why) but the 5.7x28 (FN57) is the only one I will not load for. It is very tricky and brass is good for only 1-2 reloads. I just bought several cases of it when we did not have the ammo crap laws and I was able to get it for $18 per box of 50

I too started to save money.

It then became a hobbie. It helps me to unwind.

Then, I started to cast my own boolits.

Now, I am starting to reload blackpowder. Bringing old guns back to life.

The icing on the cake is.....there is never an ammo shortage!

                Take care

I started to save money also.
It's led to shooting a whole lot more of better ammo.

Got into it in 98 as a way to save some money and get better accuracy from my guns.

I started in 77. Safe to say I've saved plenty on ammo over the years. Never a shortage and you don't have to deal with these latest BS laws. It's just fun. I start loading a batch and just leave that load out so when I have a few minutes here and there I do it. Right now I'm working brass for 54r rimmed and prime or trim a few each day and just leave it on my bench.

I'll charge and load projectiles all in one day usually but the rest is just fun.

Started to save money... but spent all the saved money going to the range more... that's the point to shoot more! All the other perks of not having to get your background check or struggle to find ammo are just perks now.
