renting reloading press time

I have let people use my presses and other gear quite a number of times. They were people who wanted to start reloading but were not sure or not sure of what equipment to get or thought they might not be able to safely do it. I will load one round then walk them thru about 10 rounds. I have also provided the components sometimes. Always mild loads. I never leave them alone when they do any process.

Before some keyboard commando spouts off I will point out that there are a number of people on this website that got started because I helped them.

After they were helped by me quite a few would buy their gear(or already had some) and bring it to me and I would show/help them set up their press/dies and such.

I have let several potential new reloaders visit the "International Reloading Complex". They get the speech, watch for about 20 rounds, hands on for about 20 rounds. Change caliber. Rinse and repeat. My press, my materials, my finished ammo. No issue of ownership, liability or transfer. Only those really interested in learning reloading will buy that deal. Cheap ammo seekers have no interest.
So far, my track record is 3 new reloaders, 2 no way, and 5 new friends.

If your buddy borrowed your car, got drunk, and ran down a crosswalk of kids, would you be liable or negligent?
Did you have a knowledge of a behavior before the use of the vehicle that there would be a problem ie; they were drunk when they took the car, suspended license, et al? Then yes.
If your buddy borrows car, then does stupid things without your knowledge? No.
Just using a press? I dont see an issue
Now if you create a de facto reloading clinic, and your buddy loads 40 grains of w231 in a .308 case and grenades his rem 700while you are “teaching”? Now you have a problem.

I have no issues teaching people how to reload. I have a few people who are very interested. One person's going far enough to buy a press, buy a bench and other components. So it was well worth my time to bring him into my reloading room to get him started. I showed him what I did, but before I did any of that we talked about safety. I recommended books for him to read and I gave him one. push come to shove if this thing gets bad, let's say I can't access my reloading room now I have another person in my network that will have the components and all of that stuff.

I usually keep all my reloads to myself as everyone knows it's hard to trust someone else's loads. I also don't want to be liable if there's a bad lower than someone who is inexperienced doesn't know to watch out or what to listen for. I take all of my time and don't do anything when I reload.

I house expresses, I thought about in the past having like a reloading party or even renting out the equipment under my supervision where is people can make their own ammunition provide they bring the components needed. I've never saw an issue with that personally. I know in the past before our own a drill press or any other equipment, I would have loved to be able to pay someone for their time and their equipment.

At the end of the day I still don't see anything wrong with it. I'm not saying I'll let the world into my reloading room, but friends and family yes I would. There are co-workers who have asked me if earn things and as long as they are serious about gun safety in the first place, they might be allowed to reloading room one day.

my biggest issue when it comes to reloading is I only want to deal with people who are serious about wanting to reload and even more serious about safety. That is the biggest thing. I take reloading way too serious as a hobby and as general.

As CalArkansas advised I had 2 people show up today with their presses and components to learn how to set up their dies and measure powders and seating, they are off to a good start.

I have let a close friend of mine use my press before he got into reloading. And I would do it again. On the flip side he's more obsessed about reloading that I was now. And he has more equipment than I do now.

I used friends equipment when I was learning. Since then, I have a helped a few people get started; passing it forward.

Depending on where they are, there are some shops that rent press time. YSR_Racer had a thread going about that a while ago. Apparently there are some SoCal locations that have presses set up for the public to rent.

Kindly say NO !! You want people at your house for hours and hours?? Also,, NEVER EVER go in partnership on a reloading kit.
You will immediately feel uncomfortable at your friends house and sense he's had enough. Reloading takes time and usually several reloading sessions rather than a quick wham bam and you're done.

Run away from this idea. Let them buy a cheap Lee loader.
