Two interesting cases found while reloading today.

One is a really weird split case. Been reloading over 30 years and never seen a split go spiral. Usually its lengthwise. The case on the right wouldnt feed into the shellplate and it took me a closer look to figure out why......see it? The extractor groove isnt fully machined in this case. No the same old same. The split case was a Remington Peters and the incomplete extractor gooved one was a Blazer.

I had a couple 38 cases do similar lately that is some brittle brass. What caliber?

In 50 yrs I've seen several with incomplete X grooves. One with NO groove at all in a box of Rem 243. But never saw your unique spiral split example.

I shot with a guy whose 32SWL target pistol broke the brass at the bullet base. Both pieces came out, but were separate on ejection. Shot as well as any other rounds, as near as I could tell. Happened on maybe 6 rounds out of 30.

The spiral break, though, is a new one for me as well.

Dont rmember which site but saw, I think, a 9mm Luger cartridge without any extractor groove at all. Talk about weird looking......would be cool to have.

Somewhere around here I have a factory Federal 12 gauge shotshell that was put together but didn't have the brass base on it.

Better save it unless it is worth something more. Like when they goof on a coin or a baseball card... Just saying, that shell right there on the right COULD be worth, hmm, at least a quarter maybe...

That is definitely a unicorn. Maybe send the Remington back to them and see what they say after some investigation. Otherwise, mount it! It's unusual.
