I have a Marlin 1894 Cowboy in .45 colt and I want to shoot Missouri Bullet Company .45 colt slammers. These are 315 grain WFN. I can't find a starting load for these types of bullets. I checked the Hodgdon website and the 300 grains are all jacketed. I was gonna try 9.0 grains of Titegroup that was shown on the site. Anybody have suggestions for Unique or HS-6?

Need Help with .45 colt

I've load 310 gr lead with 8.7 gr Unique. Use the general cautions and work up the load checking for pressure signs. -
Did you happen to ask Missouri for loading data? I use Oregon Trail bullets and they offer a loading book for sale for their bullets, but will give specific load data over the phone.sigpic

I cross-check 300 grain loads for .45 colt using three different manuals. All of them have loads for jacketed starting way below the 9.0 of Titegroup you mention. The 9.0 seems to be the max load in the Ruger only section, if that is what you are looking for. I use True Blue for a wide range of .45 colt loads, from mild to more wildComment

Well, I believe that the higher pressure loads will be fine in the marlin because its a modern rifle. So ruger only loads will certainly work. Plus I do have a Blackhawk that should also have no problem with ruger only loads. I'm trying for 1000 fps out of the Marlin. Never thought of asking MBC for load data but I'll check it out.Comment

Do you have a Lyman reloading manual? I have the 49th ed and it shows the shape of the projectile, so I look for similar shape bullet, same diameter, and in the same or even slightly heavier bullet weight.Last edited by Odd_Ball; 03-27-2020, 10:39 PM.sigpicComment

1000fps 325gr projectile is a pretty stout load! And if you get there gonna get leading problems.Comment

Hs-6 will give you what you want, even unique if your only trying to get to 1000fps. Save the tightgroup for 9mm. What is the measurement from crimp groove to base of bullet?Originally posted by PalmarisYou should not worry about me. Going from a 4 5/8" Blackhawk to a 20 inch Rossi 92 I gain around 300 fps using medium burn powders such as hs-6, unique, be-86, aa5. These powders are not to fast for what you're looking for which is 1000fps out of the rifle. I gain almost exactly 500fps using slower powders 296, h110, 300mp ECT ECT, these powders do not match what you're looking for.
THESE LOADS ARE TO BE USED IN STRONG FIREARMS SUCH AS RUGER LARGE FRAME BLACK HAWK, WIN 92, WIN 94, MARLIN 94
Lee 452 300 rf
Base to crimp .393
Actual weight 312gr
Rossi 92 20" barrel
13gr hs-6 1355fps avg
9.5gr cfe pistol 1161fps avg
454 290 ranchdog
base to crimp .400
Actual weight 299gr
Rossi 92 20" barrel
13gr hs-6 1345fps avg
9.5gr cfe pistol 1169fps avg
The hs6 loads are creeping in on 29k if I were you I would start at 10gr if you're looking for 1000fps in your rifle.
As far as unique goes 8gr should get you a little over 1000fps in your rifle probably closer to 1100. Is there any reason why you want to hover around that velocity?Originally posted by PalmarisYou should not worry about me. I'm trying to get an effective range out to 150 yards. Right now with my loads I'm barely able to hit 100 yards, and its weak.Going from a 4 5/8" Blackhawk to a 20 inch Rossi 92 I gain around 300 fps using medium burn powders such as hs-6, unique, be-86, aa5.
