    WTB: Sympathy - Stuck case

Yeap, I guess I got sloppy in my lube or didn't clean my die enough or something. Got a case hard locked in my FL sizing die. After some tapping it's probably going back to Redding. I'll check the reloading store tomorrow for a stuck case extractor but it doesn't look good

Might want to try puting it in the freezer for a while. Brass and die materials expand/contract at different rates. Than try to punch it out.

That sucks when it happens. Trust me I know.

I'm sure Redding will fix it for you, but it's always a bummer waiting the week to two weeks it will take for them to send it back.

While you're on the phone with them setting up the return, ask if they still sell their extractor kit. They don't sell it the cheapest, but they can include it in your package when they ship the die back to save on shipping.

It will save you time the next time you stick a case... and I'll bet you (and most everyone else here) will. I've had to use mine three times since I got it years ago... once for me and twice for one of my brothers. Guess what he got for Christmas last year.

        Yeap, tried that. No go.

Luckily I have enough prepped .308 brass to get me through a couple of weeks and I should be getting my SRP this week so building .223 ought to keep me occupied for a while

I even managed to break my crappy loading bench while trying to effect an extraction...

Back out the primer punch as far as possible, then drill and tap the primer pocket 1/4x20. Place a socket of appropreate size over the end of the die, (a pipe nipple with a hole in it works great too)and use a 1/4x20 bolt to pull the case out. Works for me. If the head comes off it's a trip to the factory.

One thing I like about Lee dies is that you can bang out stuck cases yourself without damaging or having to return the die.

The Hornady die that I destroyed tonight trying to do the same thing says that feature may only apply to Lee Dies.

Considering my brass situation (got some ready) and my SRP coming in this week to keep me busy, I decided to just send it back before I do any more damage than I may have already done.

I actually just read an article the other day about case head separation in the chamber, and an easy way to get 'em out.

Find a tap that will fit inside the casing snugly, Gently knock the tap into the inside of the casing (you'll have to cut the head off the case in your situation)

In the article that I read - you would then use a cleaning rod or something to knock against the tap from the inside out. In your case - if you can open up the other end of the die - use whatever to pound on the end of the tap through the case, and it'll come out. If not - lock the exposed end of the tap up in a vice, and gently pry it out.

                  Should work.

That'll do it. That's basically what a case extraction kit is,

                      Hans Gruber,

                      Here's some sympathy for you:

Dillon dies have an extractor built in like some others...

                        Ruined a Hornady Die..AAAAAGHHH !!!!

                        Nodda Duma,

Tell me you didn't really do that. Most Hornady Dies are on a 3 month back order.

The die I need is in stock in several places. 35 Whelen dies aren't exactly flying off the shelves

                            RE: Ruined Dies

Interesting... The one die I ruined was a .35 Rem. RCBS sent me a new one by return mail, no charge. Sticking .223 seems to be my specialty... Pull the rims right off 'n those 'll suckers. I've had to learn, "If it starts in hard and you force it, it isn't going to come out."

                              a decent case lube?

Discounting that week back in 2000 when I tried One Shot (and stuck two cases), I've I never had a stuck case. I use Imperial Case Wax.
