I buy ammo in 1000+ round quantities all the time. No issues with it. Your friend is spreading FUD."Can our form of government, our system of justice, survive if one can be denied a freedom because he might abuse it?" --Harlon Carter

I'm not exactly sure how you could get in trouble for buying 1k rounds of ammo... while I've never purchased 5.7x28 I have definitely purchased thousands of rounds at a time.
Your friend might be referring to that proposed ammo bill that would limit sales of pistol ammo to either 49 rounds or less or a FTF transaction.
AFAIK there isn't a law that would allow 200 rounds yet prevent 1K though the local laws where you are may be different from the ones where I am -- to be absolutely certain you might want to double-checkAccording to this CDC document the firearms related death rate has been surpassed by the poisoning death rate.

What jurisdiction are you in? Perhaps there's a local ordinance of some sort - But otherwise - Find them and buy them up -Comment

It won't be in effect if we put enough pressure on our legislators to oppose this bill. Please take the time to call and voice your opposition!

Yup! You gonna be in trouble all right!
Buy 1000 rounds... shoot it all up, then 'trouble' is you need to buy MORE!
So then get 2000 rounds and will last 'twice' as long before 'trouble' is... you run out!

I used to get at least 3000 rounds of ammo per month delivered in San Francisco, and the authorities never kicked in my door, so you should be fine in Campbell.
Believe me, your friend is not talking about the new 50 per month law. He is talking about the same "you'll get in trouble/put on a list" FUD that people have been spreading about bulk ammo purchases for years. It's similar to the "don't have too much fun or the boogy man will get you" theme in horror movies.
