Asking for load recommendations for Springfield M1A1

Shortly after my last post I realized that it was pure laziness and procrastination on my part for not looking up that information, so I did and learned about the Krag. I would love to buy one right now, but I have to recover from the holidays. I have been searching for them online and searching for 30-40 Krag reloading equipment. That said, in a few months I will use you as the excuse when the wife asks why?

If I do acquire a Krag in the next few months then I will back on the same path looking for a Springfield Model 1873.

Sorry, I have had it for a long time and I have not looked up the serial number since the time I got it. I am off a little bit on the year. It was made in 1955 and was made by Springfield Armory. I did the search again today after reading your reply. The serial is #586XXXX as far as I can tell it was made in 1955 and by Springfield Armory not International Harvester or Harrington and Richardson.

It is by far the most accurate rifle I own. Better than all my AR's with optics by far. I have been able to get tight groups at 100 yards with the regular open sights. This rifle is my favorite.

Can’t go wrong with 41.5g of either IMR4895 or 4064 with any 168g bullet....very common charge weight , my scout groups about 2moa & my Supermatch a little less than that like 1.5”-2” sometimes it’ll print sub Moa but it’s not consistent & frustrating but I’ve given up trying to match my AR’s accuracy . Do yourself a favor & don’t put a scope on it ��

41.5 grains of H4895, Winchester LRP, 168gr Sierra MatchKing. Good to at least 600 yards.

Exactly.
No rifle with a gas cylinder or piston mounted on the barrel is as accurate as a proper bolt action rifle.
Thinking you can make one as accurate is just an exercise in futility.

The stock and receiver on an M14/M1A were never designed with optical sights in mind.
Stick with the excellent sights that they come with.

Nothing wrong with the use of LC.I prefer LC match.

My go-to for my M1As is 42.4gr of RE-15, 175gr SMK, LC brass and CCI #34.

With Varget I run up to 42-43gr with a 175,not for the faint of heart,so work up to it .

When I shot regularly in HP competition, I used LC brass exclusively. I initially loaded with 40.5gr of H4895, but settled on 41.5gr as it was a tad more accurate out of my gun, and was good to the 600 yard targets.

The M1A can get good accuracy. Here is 168GR FGGM. Still trying to match it with handloads.
