I had a bunch of 38s I loaded with light load of 231 (I think). Fired fine if powder was next to the primer but would squib if the powder was at the front of the case. Like when picking the revolver up from the bench. I use higher volume powder for 38 now.

I've shot kegs of Bullseye powder and never had a squib.

Wadcutter loads presume that the bullet is seated flush, achieving an expected pressure level. When I was learning to load WCs, not seated flush, squibs and my lame attempt to remove them cost me a new barrel. I just want to ask if your bullets are seated flush.

I agree that the powder did not ignite and it was the primer pop that pushed the squib out. Maybe all the powder was at the front of the case, up against the bullet, and the flash of the primer did not reach the powder for whatever reason. Maybe you had some piece of tumbling media stuck in the flash hole that blocked the flash, but the primer gasses still built up enough to push the bullet out? Or you got something on the powder that prevented it from igniting (like WD-40).

Did you tumble the primed cases?

              No, deprimed, then tumbled.

                Yup, they're seated flush.

My take, from having a few squibs in my years of reloading.

Despite the care, are you CERTAIN that one didn't get past you with no (or virtually no) powder in it?

If the primer fails to ignite, literally nothing will happen, correct? But, primers are powerful little things and I know for a fact that a primer alone will push a projectile about an inch or so down the barrel without trouble. it will leave a dirty casing.
