Is reloading really worth it?

I started reloading 25 years ago mainly because I like 7mm Wby, 45/70, 357 mag, 45LC, 450 Bushmaster and 45acp. Probably paid for my gear many times over just on the savings of 7mm Wby.

Bought a ton of 9mm and 223/556 as my main ammo and when I started reloading realized I can do 308 and 45acp so I don't have to stick to those two rounds just to not spend so much. I'm getting a 357 gp100 so I will load that also. I don't know that I'll shoot the 9mm much. I guess imagine what guns you'd love to shoot and if you were loading then how much would that save otherwise sometimes we buy guns that shoot cheaper rounds just for the reason of saving some funds. Reloading bottle neck cases is a bit time consuming but straight walled pistol cases are super easy. Just loading the 308 for me and my friend probably paid for the equipment in 1 years shooting. I didn't spend a ton on the Lee classic turret and equipment vs the more expensive stuff. Get a used press off a calgunner, pick up cases at the range, and you'll like it.

first i shoot a M1 Garand and reload for it.

i load both 150 gr m2 ball and 55 accelerator rounds for it plus 30 carbine accelerator rounds that i use in my AMT Automag III .30 Carbine Semi Auto Pistol

Like shooting sports reloading is a rewarding hobie.

With the new tax schemes coming down on ammo it will be even more rewarding down the road.

What pay rate do you use for your leisure time?
How much do you get paid for sleeping, eating and using the restroom outside of work time?
That last one is the rate you use to calculate what your time is worth while reloading.

It depends how many rounds you shoot a month ? For me , it is worth it, it save money, it keep my a** away from TV, it keep me away from the bar, definite force me to quit smoking, it keep me busy doing something instead of b*tching thing around me, instead of doing nothing I can spend time at my "man cave", learn something new …..

If I didn't load my own ammo I would Never have been able to Cowboy Shoot with My two Kids 3 times a month for almost 5yrs.

Even had to buy commercial cast bullets a lot of the time.

Rolling your own is one of the most satisfying parts of being a Shooter.
Until you've put 5rds into the 10Ring with ammo you created yourself you won't be able to understand.

That formula doesn't work for hobbies.

If I had a choice, to spend 30 minutes at the range or to spend 3 hours at the range, I would pick 3 hours. Because "time = money" is the opposite of reality in that case.

Time I'm spending doing something I like is not "wasted". And unlike many other hobbies, reloading can actually decrease costs of another hobby.

I won't change the oil in my car. I know how to do that, but that's not fun so I'll apply "how much my time is worth". Wheel Works will do it for $25, so I'm definitely not doing it myself. Would I hire some guys to go shoot my rifles at the range while I'm saving my time's worth? NOPE. Same thing with reloading. If you like it, it's worth it.

I also like the idea to pay $0 to the state when I get my ammo.
