i try to look at a few factors when considering reloading. it is a skill that could be valuable someday if ammo is suddenly cut off or becomes very limited. if done in my leisure time no different than any other hobby expense wise. i can control my loads of powder, primers, etc and custom make my rounds rather than one generic round fits all of a particular caliber. In the present day world things are cheaper time wise to buy generally acceptable over the counter rounds for whatever caliber but those times may not last. Just look at how restrictive we have become in the last fifty years. where will we be in another fifty years. and we are talking about skill here not major money and time really. But justify it or not as you see fit.

Is reloading really worth it?

I have some buddies that think that way. I ask them when was the last paycheck they got they make for sitting around all night playing computer games and jacking their lumber and they never have an answer for me. Bummer cause I want to sign up for this magical payroll that pays you for leisure time.

Didn't read any comments about going in halves with a friend on reloading...
That's what I did. We split the cost of all the equipment and supplies. This made reloading a money saver, big time for us. The equipment has already paid for itself in less than 2 years.
Here's a sneaky tip, keep the reloading equipment at your friend's house. No mess in the garage for the wife to complain about. And the unexpected bonus, my friend lives minutes from work so he reloads during his lunch hour. I hardly get the chance to reload until the odd Sunday we can meet up.

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined, nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
-- Thomas Jefferson, 1764

I will likely never make back the money I spend on reloading supplies. Or any other hobby either. But I go to work to earn money and I like to spend a bit of it on my hobbies. Plus I have kids so any money I thought I might save by reloading is a joke in comparison to raising kids.==================

This is true if you take time off work to do something. Like if you take a day off to reload, that's not good economic sense. If you you come home from work and want to reload, well then nobody is paying you to watch TV or read a book either.==================
