    CCI .45 AUTO shot shells

I've been looking for a box or two of these for quite some time but only finding .45 COLT, AKA Long Colt. Sportsman's Warehouse in Visalia had one box on the shelf, 1/3 oz. #9 shot.
I have .22 and .38 CCI shot shells both of which have the blue plastic caps which hold the shot but these .45s are fully aluminum encased with a recessed flat clear plastic crimp.
At $17.00 a box and only finding one box for sale I'll run a limited feed, ignition, ejection and pattern test through my Colt Combat Commander starting with a regular round in the chamber with one of these on deck and a target laying flat on the ground as in snake.

You can make your own if you want to.
    I use shot from a 12 ga. 7-1/2 shell.

Put powder in sized and primed case, put a punched out piece of thin cardboard on top, then add shot, then top with another punched out cardboard piece, Crimp over to seal.

Some use a drop of wax on top for sealing.

I do this for 357 mag.
    Try it!

I doubt that a shotshell will cycle a semi-auto. Never tried though so it sounds like a good experiment this weekend for me. I agree with the above poster, make your own. You can make your from scratch as above or buy the empty plastic shell from CCI and make a duplicate of what they sell.

In 40, the all metal style cycles my glock 22. The plastic cap style does not.

        Both kill snakes dead.

7-1/2 is awful big. You don't get much shot. That is why they use #12 shot.

Old family recipe, a couple grains of Unique with a gas check as a wad, some #12 shot and either cardboard or another gas check on top and crimp like a 148gr wadcutter. You should have seen the perfect circular pattern on my grandfather's garage door lol.

The thing is, to get #12 shot you would have to buy it in bulk.
I could not find a small quantity (1 pound) for sale.
It's like shopping at Costco. No small sizes there.
You want rice? 25lb or 50lb bags! (grin)

#12 shot is a bit pricey and you'd end up with a bunch left over after making 10, 20,...50? Shotshells.

Buying the Speer empty capsules is also another purchase which jacks up the cost of making your own.

That is why when I need to make some I grab a shotgun shell and do it that way.
I do have an occasional rattler that I need to deal with so I may shoot 1-3 per year.

#12 shot (dust) is in 22's. 45's use #9. #12 is pretty anemic.

I bought a bag of #10 for loading pistol shotshells, but just for revolvers. I really don't care for the plastic cups as they're too fragile. They also don't chamber in my derringer.

I use #8 or #9 if I can find it. I picked up a box of 12g win AA in #9 and cut them up for the shot, it lasted 6-7 years lol. Even though you get less shot than say #12, I feel that shotshells penetrate better with #9, and I can't argue with my results. While I use a cardstock/cardboard as a wad, I like to use gas checks for the front seal. More durable and no need to seal, plus, I've found a nice cookie cutter hole in all the snakes I've taken.

There's you tubes using standard pistol dies and .308 brass. I know some use 41 mag sizing die to neck down the brass, then another die to produce the bullet shape.

Certainly more complicated than straight wall revolver rounds, but......

I'm going to experiment with .30-06 brass and a .44mag sizing die.

Don't have any .308 brass, but comparing case dimensions to '06, it might be close enough.

Yup. You'll need to modify a lee .45 acp seating die to get the crimp right.
