A Pig Load

Appreciate the help, but I'm not going to waste any more time or money trying to make my rifles like a bullet I have zero confidence in. I'll just stick to the load that gives me 2"+ groups and call it good for California pigs. Accubonds and Partitions for the two weeks spent every year out of state hunting. Glad I can afford that option and am not stuck with California as my only opportunity to hunt.

BTW, I use SW Heavy Duty Bore Cleaner and can shoot sub MOA, but off a heavy loaded led sled, of course.

That was found in the stomach contents of my bull so it penetrated about 4' of buffalo, either from the hams or from the brisket. I shot him quartering toward me on the first shot and a Texas heart shot on the second.

I've only recovered three Barnes bullets and they were all from my .375. With the fast moving bullets in .243, .264, .277, .284 and .308 caliber, I've shot through everything that I've ever killed and never had an indication of a bullet penciling through.

These all started out at 2500 fps and impacted somewhere between 100 to 300 yards away. (2250 - 1880 fps)

I load 150 gr ttsx as well. Might as well develop your own non lead since after 7/1/19 mandatory in ca.

Yep, lead on that date. Even Turners is getting on it. I'm shooting coyotes to get rid of the lead

Wow! 48" of penetration is super impressive. They did their job. My thoughts are that our group is using them on too small of animals and not at near the velocity they should be travelling. I've yet to see one recovered personally, and pencil holes are our norm. Yours's worked well.

Here is the load that shoots best in both my Remington 700 and post war FN Mauser 98.

150 Grain Barnes TTSX
51 Gr. IMR 4895
C.O.A.L. 3.240"

Same load works with Barnes TSX and Nosler E-Tip bullets.

Never had to track a pig with this load.

TSX for me, load them hot back them off the lands. I also use mag primers for 270 & 06 loads. I tried the ttsx and was not as happy with accuracy. The TSX is crazy accurate at 150yds all three rounds will touch on paper like shone before.

Copper will crush bones but soft tissue it needs 2-3' of body mass to really work like Barnes claims.

I'm switching my hunting rig from 270 & 06 to 6.5-300 wby mag for copper expansion out to 800yds. I looked at 257wby mag but the bullet was too light for wind drift.

I love the 180gr 06 SST Custom loads.....they don't make them anymore but damn they ran them hot.
My 270 hated them in 130gr and they hurt like a *****. But the 06 loves them and they have killed my last 15 elk and is my only elk load/gun.
Honaday tried to push the Custom loads to Mag caliber performance. One thing I learned they used Mag primers for those rounds to get complete powder burn. I'm guessing they were using slower burning powders......but who knows
