Reloading matchgrade ammo for the M1A

Some say that he once mooned two prostitutes just for a round of drinks, but wasn't surprised by the reply......They call him, the Hutch
Some say that he rode a dirtbike 7k miles across the country and that he once applied Bengay to his own testicles for a mere $50............They call him, the Hutch -Top Gear

You have the bullets (they work great in my M1A) Varget & 4895 works for me, and cap them with CCI L.R. Bench Rest

Reloading for the M1A is easy!I prefer Win primers,Varget,IMR4895, or IMR4064 for powder.60's LC match brass.
Depending on the twist rate of your barrel ,bullet weight can range from 125gr-178gr.I have a 1:12 and shoot everything in between.
Starting out with the 168 Sierra is a good choice, but consider the hornady 168.
Use a medium burn rate powder and a good bullet and you will have a great shooter.

Always thought you had to run miltary style CCI primers with the M1A?

The paperwork/manual/propaganda that came with my Springfield talks about slamfires from using soft primers.

Rubbish I say ,just avoid Federal and foreign mfg primers.make sure primers are seated below flush!

I've primed using cci 200, WLR, fed 210s, haven't noticed a difference out of a scout.

                    I'll 2nd coal at 2820-2830 using 168gr.

Hmmm, could the Federal be considered more sensitive, as in "soft"?

"Slam-fire" occurrence is most likely from a high primer. As Highpower790 says, pay attention to seating depth. Your 168's and 4895/4064 is a good combo. When you need to buy more 168's, Hornady is a good cost-effective choice. Another option that I use is Nosler "Blemished" from their outlet, Shooters Pro Shop:

So I gotta ask. How many grains of powder are you guys using for your best loads?

I shoot a lot of M1A. BLC2 46.0gr with 150gr FMJ, replicates factory ball ammo. Test in you rifle first. My best shooting load is 46.5gr with 150gr.

It’s not difficult to get a M1A to shoot. As a highpower shooter,I like a mediocre load of 40gr for 100-300yd use and something you will want to work up to for 600-1k yds.
