    Dammit, here comes Guffey...
Is this some kind of insult? Please explain, thank you.

    My spelling are correct, Sir.

And my 90% estimation is rather generous or conservative.

If you do not know the meanings of the words, if you do not have the equipment needed for such work, if you do not know how to perform the work and you are disinterested or indifferent about the works' usefulness or its relevancy to the art of properly assembling match grade rifle ammunition, then that is fine. Ninety percent covers a lot of reloaders.

My response wasn't meant for the 90%. But it was meant for those, such as the OP, who announced that he has the desire & experience with reloading and wants to upgrade his reloading skills.

Divernhunter----Thick skin, absolutely. I ran with it learned made a friend and pressed on. Didn't argue with anyone---fact was I was partially amused. Did I do a search---no I was new to the site so that ones on me. The fact I have a possessors license doesn't mean I deal with them all the time and when I do it's during an audit so have bigger issues to deal with. I can see where some of your points were triggers for some. I can also relate to some other post where there re people here who like to eat the inexperienced for what ever reason. Is what it is---it didn't run me off and I find myself here a lot more. Thanks for your post! I look forward to taking my reloading to the next level. Cheers

Very good to hear that the 44-40 loading worked out for you. It can be a tricky one to get right, if you're shooting vintage guns. You were ahead of the game in that you had a newer Henry to load for, and that took a lot of the trial and error out of the process.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

The posters that tend to chew people up over a simple question are the ones with the least to offer in my experience.

Your story is one of the reasons I say Calguns is the worst place to ask questions on. I cringe when I see some questions on this site and how the brain trust answers. You will get better answers on Doodie Project.

I'm glad you figured it out. To me reloading is fun and relaxing.

Kudos to those that helped this gentleman.....

Of course it is a great way to spend your time.

Reloading is a serious business and is no time to suffer foolish behavior.

Unfortunately Reloading is expensive and there are no 'Do-Overs' upon primer ignition. So the jovial Let's all go to Disney Land enjoyment loosely applies to Reloading.

I pointed out that Reloading for rifles needs a lot more skill than Reloading just for pistol. And a good start requires a strong academic understanding that starts at the beginning with the vocabulary associated to the craft.

Then from out of nowhere comes malicious mcguffy terms & challenges aimed at me without cause or apology. The only relevant challenge is to pull up random YT rifle Reloading clips. There you will see and hear in those clips that my percentage estimation stands correct by the complete absence of the terms & practices that I mentioned.

Perhaps my mcguffy friends and related 'thick skinned special helper' commentators fall into or represent this Reloading YT sample group. Well, that is unfortunate.

The men on the High Power Rifle Shooting firing line whom are shooting very well almost exclusively handload their rifle ammunition. Fortunately they explain the craft to those that hold the practice in high esteem and respectfully listen to those that know better by first hand experience.

Hambam105, What I have learned in my short tenure of reloading is what I don't know. I have also learned that before I attempt to take on a necked riffle round is that I need a whole lot more education. I don't shoot my long guns much so haven't been in a hurry to make that jump----however, I did just inherit my grand fathers springfield -06 1903 that has a born on date of 1918. To shoot that I would really prefer lighter loads so my starting point will be for that and with lots of guidance from those who know. Thanks for the info.

Just remember to use published loads, "light" loads can be just as dangerous because of pressure curves.

I've noticed they're pickier about trimming. Don't do it and the neck will split earlier than need be.

So I bought different reloading books, watched different youtube videos and did research online. It's a fun hobby especially when you shoot a lot.

I took a class early on and the main thing I took way was 'do not experiment'. Not safe. Conventional wisdom also does not work in reloading. Re: less powder doesn't always mean less pressure... et cetera.

So; just use tested load data....

on the plus side; someone probably already has tested load data to do anything you might want to do. I've found all kinds of fun stuff. Subsonic 223 and 54r. Round ball loads for 12g (all three using the same powder)... et cetera.
