a little over a year ago I came on this sight and asked if anyone was interested in trading brass for reloads. I was unaware of the reloading rules. I was torn apart by many people on this site. Couldn't believe the backlash I received. Called many names and accused of being an ATF agent which is funny because I have an ATF possessors license and am regularly audited by multiple federal agencies. Well---there was one person who PM'd me who is local to me and got me set up on reloading. I have since loaded 42 thousand rounds. I am not a good reloader by any means but I have been very successful. My measuring test is at the range. I have had nearly no issues with my loads other than I took a couple thousand 45's down to the bottom of the recipe and it gives a coupe of my 45's problems ejecting. 95% of what I load are 9, 10, and 45 which I do on a Dillon 650. 44 mag and 44-40 I do on a single stage. was stoked how well my 44-40 loads have worked out. Have received some very good helpful info from a few folks on here---took a lot of **** from others----to the helpers----Thank you--it has been a great trip. To the naysayers---I'll be nice for once in my life and not ask you to hold my target . I haven't gotten into riffle loads yet as I still have a lot more to learn. I'm having fun!! I think I'll go pound out another 500 right now!!! I hope the next newbie that seeks guidance gets less grief than I did when I started. Cheers

I've had the same experience on here. I just ignored the haters and listen the the good folks. I'm amazed at the amount of knowledge on calguns and the willingness of them to share it. The haters don't bother me at all and find them very amusing.
Since I started reloading, I don't know which I like more, reloading or shooting.

Now that you've become proficient, will you trade some of your reloads for brass? Thanks

It is straight forward when full length resizing straight wall pistol cases. But resizing bottle neck rifle brass is a real art where 90% of reloaders are clueless.
Know the definition of Head Space, neck sizing, bump size, datum line, run-out, and of course full length resize. Don't be surprised if you think you need to buy a new Press.Comment

a bit of an exaggeration regarding 90%. All it takes is FL resizing, maybe crimp removal and trimming if needed. It is straight forward when full length resizing straight wall pistol cases. But resizing bottle neck rifle brass is a real art where 90% of reloaders are clueless.

Good for you! I'm glad you got into reloading. I have been reloading for only a few months, I avoided asking questions here due to people just bashing each other most of the time. So I bought different reloading books, watched different youtube videos and did research online. It's a fun hobby especially when you shoot a lot.

I could see your frustrstion, or point of view but honestly if you make a post with a question, and get 20 post of hazing and 5 post with the right answer and help. What does it truely matter.
I started reloading about 5 years ago, got 80% of my info from this site, took a reloading class set up from this site and meet more than one person i consider a reloading guru and somewhat of a mentor. So i'd say its all a wash with alot of upside.
Enjoy the hobbyComment

I am glad you are enjoying the reloading.
Yes you will get chewed up when some or most of the following happen:
You ask something that has been asked many times,
You do not use the search feature before posting,
You have a low post count which sometimes makes people think you are LE trying to get someone to do something illegal,
When given answers you argue back(this happens too often) yet you say you do not know and that is the reason for asking.
Ask people to do something illegal is a sure way to get backlash.
Yes some just are not as "nice" as others this also depends on the question and the way it is asked.
Stay on this site in several years(or more) and with a lot of reloading as well as research on your own and you may find yourself the same way in one degree or another. This is coming from an "old guy" who has helped many people over the years with reloading/shooting/hunting/working on firearms and enjoyed most of it and the people I have helped. I started reloading in the 1960's when there was no internet and you learned by using your own brain and reading books. I sometimes think people have become too dependent on the internet and having other do even the minor thinking for them. It is the "I want it now" attitude without doing anything to get it. I have also hunted/ shot/worked on guns since the 1960's and before. I learned much of what I know the hard way---experience and spending money to find out. I do try to save people the time, money and help them avoid making some mistakes. I have one room, part of another and 1/3+ of my garage used for reloading. I have old equipment(1960's RCBS press) and some of the latest. I have 4 single stage presses and a Dillon 650 plus a shotgun press that I never use anymore.
OP---One final note(actually an honest question) since you say you deal with the ATF and such why did you not just ask them to start with? Also did you use the search feature? Did you try to google it before posting here the 1st time? All of these would have saved you from the backlash. Last--if you are going to be one here you need to have(or get) a fairly think skin or at least have a good(safe place) to go and cry/feel sorry for yourself. I am NOT suggesting this is you I am just saying that is the way it is as you found out.
Again enjoy your reloading and if I can help feel free to contact me. Please do so if you start loading non-lead bullets as I spent 3 years getting them sorted out and now I do know the tricks to them and have helped quite a number of others. That was an expensive and at times frustrating learning curve.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
