The jackets will float to the top to be skimmed off. Copper has a much higher melting point than lead. Go on castboolits and see if THE Captain is still selling lead, her ingots are good and clean and reasonable.

At that price the boolits alone would be about $20 for 500.

          At 2$ lb 500, 230gr boolits would be $32.

The 22 Bator when cast of lino comes out at 45 gr , then size , it comes out of the mould at .224 . lino make it lighter and smaller.

At least it does out of mine , and using high lino you can push them , fast and come out of the mould cleaner/easier to get perfect form.

I get just under 2000fps out of a Contender without pushing , now the 218 Bee will go closer to 3000fps . Minute of squirrel 100 to 150 yrds.

Ah. When I searched it. I only saw a 55gr gas checked design.

These will be used for gallery loads.

Maybe a 37gr bullet with 2-4 gr of powder. I'll probably cast with near pure lead and powder coated.

Been casting for a time, 45 cal, 9mm, 44mag, 38/357. It's not as cheap as it was but hey it's a hobby, has always been, some hobbies always tend to cost more down the road. Anyway Castboolits forum will have a lot of information a great bunch willing to help out. Check out the group buys on molds, MiHec has some great molds in several configurations, penta points, hollow point and solid, have several his H&G 68 clone mold with pental points is great in my 45's, his "Keith style" for the 45 long colt shoot good. Got several other sets to acquired over the years, H&G, Lyman, Ideal. Have fun and be safe... molten lead ..

Someone mentioned it earlier. Head over to the castboolits forum and start reading. TONS of info over there!

Might check with your range. Some let you collect lead for casting.

As with reloading, there are startup costs.
For the lead, get yourself a cast iron pot (thrift store?) and a turkey fryer propane setup ($35.00 approx.) I use a muffin pan and ladle out the melted lead to make small ingots for later use.
Use your Lee pot for the lead casting.

Lead can be free if you have some sources. I have a roofing friend, for instance, that saves all the old lead flashing for me.
Do not be tempted to use old car batteries for the lead.

Yup, check out Cast Boolits for more info.
Lots of experienced folks there that will be happy to help you.
                              Do it.
It's a fun expansion of your reloading skills.
