Don't keep us guessing on the type of rifle to be used! For good all around used don't stray far from military data, for this I use 46gr of the purists IMR4895 or the same charge with Varget and a Winchester large rifle primer, and no crimp.
    Keep it simple!

Thats the advice you guys come up with. M1 Garand loads?? He said Howa Bolt 1-10 he could load up to a 200 bullet.

Powders he could use for a 168gr
4895 H or IMR Check your load data they are not interchangeable.
          Varget, Reloader 15 or 17, PP2000MR, H380, H4350, H4831, A2460, A2495, A2520, A4064, N133, N1530, N135, N140, N540, N150, N550.

Being he has an 06 in a bolt rifle he has a lot more leeway in load and bullet selection.

I've had pretty good luck with IMR4064 and 150 grain Hornady GMX or SST bullets. Not one hole groups, but good enough to kill a deer or elk at the distances I'm comfortable shooting.

If you're going after deer, a 150 grain bullet ought to be adequate. If you're going after elk, I'd step up to 180s. If you're just making practice ammo, doesn't matter. If you're planning to use that '06 to hunt in California, I'd stick with a 150 grain lead-free something.

I get between .50 and .75 inch 5 shot groups in my Sako A5 with:
                Hornady 168 BTHP, 57 g IMR 4831, CCI 200 primers, loaded to 3.275 COAL

I just did a load for my uncles rifle. IMR4350 with 168gr Nosler J4s. 56-57gr shoots really well.

A good dose of IMR4064 and that bullet will work rather nice. A lot of good combinations for that rifle.
