and i guess i should reword myself...i think the 10 shot load development works and has merit its just not for me...i can find a load in 30 rounds using paul reids technique...when the barrel speeds up if it throughs me outta the node i drop .2-.4gs of powder as the throat burns out i add .2-.4gs of powder i very rarely mess with seating depth...i start .020 off and thats where it stays unless something really weird is going on.

      Charge weights....

There is nothing there that would even make me want to pursue $1.15 bullets

So...here is my problem with looking at ES. If you were to just do an ES test, the area that appears flat for velocity is 39.1-39.3. But, if you look at the ladder, it looks no bueno at these charge weights for vertical.

If you did the ladder only, there might be something at 39.5-39.7 because the vertical is best there.

You also do not normally see large POI shifts going down as you increase powder charge. From shot 5 to 6, there is a rather large POI shift there. Nearly all my ladders will gradually move upwards with higher charge weights and will flat line in various spots for vertical. Were there a lot of conditions? Did you shoot in boils? Shooting in a cross or quartering wind, then shooting into a boil will have a different POI.

This is why it is important to do ladders in ideal conditions. If you have never shot the cartridge before and you do not have loads from previous similar barrels, then my recommendation is to do 0.3-0.4 grain increments (the smaller the cartridge case, the smaller the increment) is my rule of thumb) in ideal conditions, shoot the ladder as far as you comfortably can. Look for the spots where you see the best vertical over a charge weight range. I would do 2-3 rounds for each powder charge.

conditions were good...no wind if any it was only air movement nothing readable...cold but the ammo was kept in the truck and brought out 1 at a time and fired immediately...i have 1648 rounds through this barrel now so im pretty familiar with the gun...i shot that ladder prone off a bipod and rear bag.

the only thing i can figure for the large and odd impacts is the bullets only seat about a 1/3 into the neck at .010 off the lands....some of it may have been me but not a 24" spread between shots 1 and 2 thats something really weird going on there and even the rest of it makes no sense to me.

i am not the best group shooter i will admit but i can get the job done..i think lol...the pic below was shot prone off a bipod and creedmoor sport glove #7 first 5 shot group...#8 second 5 shot group...#4 was last and was 8 shots..

LMAO...it makes no sense for sure...ive shot a few ladders and none ever looked like that.

i agree and i bet if i dropped down and shot 37.7 37.9 38.1 38.3 with the flat lines there would be a nice flat spot in there problem is its not worth the time because i can shoot 130g berger hybrids at 2900-2950 accurately so those $1.15 bullets just are not so appealing anymore at 2900 LOL.

the other thing about the flat lines is they coppered my barrel up pretty good...normally after i shoot and clean its just light blue and cleans out easily after only 10 of the flat lines and the 5 bergers i shot i had dark blue and its took about 3xs as long to clean.

Sounds like flat lines are not all that great

Flat lines are not known to shoot well. Tubb did some testing with flat lines and was only able to get them to shoot consistently with what they called, a "nose ring". Look it up.

Could be that you just have bullets that aren't consistent enough.
