    mistake? hope not

Just finished up loading some 223. Using one of those caliber specific manuals I mistakenly used the data from the Hodgon powder section instead of the Hornady bullet section. Loaded 55gr fmj w/c but used data for 55gr spr sp. Hornady data says 20.8 start - 23.2 grs max. Hogdon data says 23.0 start - 25.3grs max. I loaded 24.8gr as a start. Thoughts on using them? Thanx

Depends on the powder you used.

The variance you are seeing in load data might be they are loaded to different OAL.
Hornaday book I think was 2.20 OAL. For the 55fmjbt.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

When I'm iffy about a load I'll drive out to blm, bungy it to a tree and yank a string from a safe distance

Hornady has seperate data for .223 and 5.56. If using in 5.56, you're fine.

I never worry about bullet design only weight. Of course use info for jacketed or lead seperatly

My load is 55gr FMJs over 25gr H335 any SRP.

                        ^^^^ This.

If you're inclined to go ahead, shoot ONE, then check the fired case for pressure signs. If the bolt closes easily when you chamber the round and sticks when you try to eject the round, then I would stop right there. Same thing if the primer is cratered.

I recently had an unsettling experience while developing a load for a .30-06 using Hornady GMX (lead-free) bullets when there were pressure signs at well below max load.

Might want to read this article on pressure.

Some bullets call for very different loads.
