    Screw the local shops!

I always disagreed with the Chief until today. Went to Castro Valley Gun Shop and they want $220 for 8# of Varget. Now... I have 8# on order with Cabelas for 168 something or other and thats after the shipping and haz mat fee. I'd really like to support these guys but damn!! 220?????? n Let them go out of business!!!! I wish I had the funds to open a decent, reasonably priced, well stocked, non grumpy store! I went to Imbert and Smithers and they said - "Can't get anything" - how is it that I can get it at home on line and they cant?

Support your local shops! If they cant come close to a deal you got somewhere else, get the deal. But buy things they can compete with.

There's a lot more behing the scene than what you know - Smaller shop's buying power is just not there - Castro Valley was probably lucky to get that 8lb in -

Buisnesses make money on the margin.

In order to pay for the shelf that its sitting on and the guy to ring up your order (along with the permits, insurance, electricity bill, and the 300K in inventory stock which may sit relitivly idle) they have a specific amount of return on each dollar they spend they have to get to make it worth while.

What imbert and Smithers meant when they said 'can't get anything' is that they can't get a good enough price on it for them to meet their margins and still offer it at a price you're not going to complain about.

If you were willing to pay $220 for it, Imbert and smithers probably would carry it

and thats only a %23 markup.

I don't care about what goes on behind the scenes Saigon, screw the local shops that charge that much for stuff, they can go out of business for all I care, since I can get just about anything from the Internet at a better price. So screw the local shops that over charge the people that don't know about he internet. Screw them. Screw them again and again. LOL.

And to the OP, that is what you get for not listening to the Chief. LOL.

Look, I know they need to make a buck. But $40 over what I get online after shipping and hazmat? That's a screw job. And.... they weren't even friendly about it. I REALLY want to help these guys out but come on.....

Fair price for me would be $130 or less. I would not pay more than $132 plus taxes from a local vendor, no way in hell, they can go out of business for all I care, screw them..

                    220$ is crazy..

130 is pretty cheap, 140 is still ok 150ish is getting up there.

I wouldnt go past 160 with tax though.
But its true, local shops cant compete with online stores.
If you get a store like Cabelas, Midwayusa grafs, they probably order 50-100+ 8Lb jugs vs the local store might order 10 or something.

They just dont have the capitol to do it.

If I needed powder and online was going to be months and a local shop had it for 150 Id prob get it because online would be 130 + shipping + hazmat

PS go get some Ramshot Tac, Winchester 748, reloader 15 or other similar powders that are in stock..

cause if they are charging less than $27 its cheaper to buy the 1 pounders

also a store should be getting wholesale deals they dont pay what midway charges us do they ?

it depends on what sort of dealer pricing they can get.

The trend recently is for online prices to get dangerously close to dealer cost on many items.

With the shortages that are occurring right now dealer cost can be well above what retail used to be.

Mmmmm.... no but I would assume it has to do with the F-4. Semper Fi and good to hear from you - and... don't pay 220 for Varget! (By the way - a Hawk could get a Phantom, at least thats what they told us!)
