What the hell is a Redding “P3” die for ?

I was digging around one of my gun safes and found a rifle that I have not shot in 10 years ! it’s a 17 Mach IV, so I dug around my ammo supply a sure enough found a box of 50rds, ran to the range Saturday, and shot them up ! a good time ! I shoot them, I reload them ! So I go though my die collection a find my Redding dies for 17 Mach IV, and in the box is one die marked “Redding 17 Mach IV P3” it has no stem, it is to long to be a trim die, I have searched on google, and the Redding web site, no mention of a “P3” die.
I don’t think I would have bought a crimp die for 17 Mach IV, hell I don’t think they would make one…So anybody out there know what the hell is a Redding “P3” die for ?

I don't know , but you should be able to check your other dies and figure it out .
It could be a seating / OAL [ overall length ]
I Save the boxes and paper work [ I copy and put in notebook and on computer ] but I use Lee and while Lee is cheaper , at least the dies come in a plastic canister or flat plastic box . [ I prefer the flat box - easier to stack / store ]
While I prefer Lee , I do have other company dies , so I bought 10 of the flat plastic boxes at 2 dollars each + shipping was free [ years ago from Taiwan I think .

it has NO center stem, nor has it been tapped for one, so i don't think in could be a sizing or seating die of any kind.

I think it's a powder die for progressive presses. Check Redding's PRO series dies.

P3 is the die itself. If you get 30-06 dies they are A6 if you get 25-06 Ackley Improved they are 9A if you get 6 Dasher they are 06 and if you get 308 Baer they are X1.

If the die is hollow it could be a form/trim die a body die or a shoulder bump die and it will say that right above the threaded section.
Give us everything it says or post a picture of the writing.
B/NK is Bushing Neck Die
B/FL is bushing full length
ST is seater.
Give us the abbreviation.

It's probably a Body die, back in the day you could neck size and body size separate, Redding still makes body dies.
